New issue 949 by takeahik...@gmail.com: Inaccurate walking distance after
recent update
http://code.google.com/p/mytracks/issues/detail?id=949

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start MyTracks.
2. Go for a walk.
3. Monitor distance walked.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect the same walking distance calculations as before update, and the
same as other GPS tracking apps. Distances are now 20% - 25% greater.

What version of MyTracks are you using?
1.1.16
On what version of Android?
2.3.4
On what phone?
Droid 2

The code for calculating distance has not changed for a while.
The distance is based on the positions reported by your phone GPS.
Can you try a small walk, export the file as KML, load the KML file to
Google Earth, and see if the distance is roughly the same. 20-50% off is
not right.

Comment #2 on issue 949 by takeahik...@gmail.com: Inaccurate walking
I tried it several times this weekend and it's back to being accurate. The
KML file on Google Earth matches what was on the phone. However, a
different app I had running at the same time, GPS Compass, was inaccurate
by about 25%. That app was the accurate one when My Tracks was off. It
doesn't make sense to me, but could one GPS app somehow interfere with
another when sharing the GPS resource? And maybe this time My Tracks "won",
where it didn't the few times I tried it previously?

Anyway, it looks like I'll be continuing with My Tracks.

Thanks for getting back to me.
