New issue 96 by emanuele.caruso: Customizable data in voice announcements
http://code.google.com/p/mytracks/issues/detail?id=96

The voice announcement feature is really cool, however I do lot of bike
climbing, so I need a way to set which data the voice says.

For example, I only need to know elevation, and maybe elevation gain. So we
just need a configuration screen with check-boxes to select which data we
want to hear.

A further step would be to hear incremental differences between
announcements. For example, if I set announcements each minute, I would
like to here something like "you did 1.12 km (or miles) in the last minute,
and gained 34 m (or feet) of elevation in the last minute". This also could
be configured with check-boxes in an additional configuration screen.

Nice idea. I'm not sure how to do it exactly, but I like it.

When you are doing customisable announcements can you add a checkbox for a
listen to me sound like airport announcements please. I have the
announcements set for 15 minutes and I usually miss half of it before I
focus my attention on it. That Ding Dong Ding at airports gets you prepared
for listening to what comes next.

Great idea, I saw it implemented in other similar apps. We should be able
to choose what voice announcement will inform us about through selecting
check boxes, as proposed by emanuele. What I can think of is: distance,
time, altitude, heart rate, speed and pace.

Users should also be able to choose if announcements will be repeated after
certain time or distance. Both options (distance and time) should have some
preset values to choose from (ie. 0.5, 1, 2, 5, 10km) and option to user
itself define custom period.

It would be also great to see music player integration with My Tracks, so
if I play music during workout, My Tracks should pause it when giving voice
announcements.

Here is more complete list of what we could select to hear or not to hear
during workout: distance, time, current speed, average speed, pace, average
pace, current pace, calories, heart rate, heart rate zone, cadence,
breathing rate, skin temperature, altitude, altitude gain.

It would be also great to have under options to choose if you want to hear
each time you break your previous max speed, max heart rate and when you
change heart rate zone interval (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_rate).
These announcements should not depend on defined voice announcement
interval (issue #393).

It would be also useful to be able to define voice announcements volume,
and option to mute volume during voice announcement (as I mentioned in
previous comment).

All these settings could go under "Voice Feedback" or something like that.

hi, this has been another feature i want to implement in my own app. And
this is how i designed it:

in the options we had a list when we could add "events" to trigger, a
button to add, and then in-list, the events could be deleted/modified

+Add Event
==========
HeartRate>160 (Edit / Delete) Visual[] TTS[]
Paused>1min (Edit / Delete) Visual[] TTS[]
GPS Signal Lost (Edit / Delete) Visual[] TTS[]
Bluetooth Signal Lost (Edit / Delete) Visual[] TTS[]

...
etc..

So, we had a list of possible events, and 2 types of signals: visuals (a
short message in screen) and sound (TTS with voice), so you mark whatever
you want, take in account that this is extremely flexible, so in the future
we could add support to put this information with push messages EVERYWHERE
(triggering URLS, etc...) But starting with only visual and sound will be
ideal.

Events to trigger (i'll add the ones from marko):

GPS Signal Lost
GPS Signal Fixed
Bluetooth Signal Lost
Bluetooth Signal Paired
Calories consumed X
Distance X
Speed X
AVG Speed X
Pace X
AVG Pace X
HeartRate X
Entering / Exiting HeartRate Zone X (Heartrate zones could be defined in
settings, minium 5 zones definable)
Etc...

Sorry again for being so verbose :D

I would like the option in my tracks to simply turn off all voice
prompts/alerts from my tracks so I can just listen to my music and not be
interrupted by the voice prompts. I only use the data to review after my
ride. This could be an easy toggle.

Excellent suggestions above. My own suggestion is more modest.

I'd like the voice system to report Average speed/pace and Total Time, as
opposed to Average Moving speed/pace and Moving Time. If I am out on a run
it is my overall performance I need to know, and this would be very useful.

Well done all for a great app.

I'd like to hear announcements at every 1/4 mile. It keeps me motivated.
The Nike+ app does this, but Nike+ also tracks me when I'm not running the
app and takes up like 30MB of RAM hours after its closed. Please add
customizable announcement intervals to MyTracks so I don't have to use that
buggy app.

I vote for customizeable voice notifications. In particular heart rate for
me so I can note of it without looking at my phone.
