We need to fix some wets spots on Chatte's deck. We started to remove
the hardware on the deck an found that most fittings are bolted on and
inaccessible from below. Have others found this same problem? How
did you deal with this?

It looks as if we have to take down the ceiling in the cabin. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hey... I took down the cabin ceiling to access hardware and to use proper backing plates. The EBB TIDE had lots of soft spots, good luck. Jim

Or you can cut a neat hole in the headliner, fix and back the hardware and then make a teak pad slightly larger than the hole with a single screw in the middle and cover the hole and bung the screw, we have a few of these over the galley.

Hi All,

Peter did a report on this when pages for our group were up on Google. I'll try to reconstruct it, but it is in HTML and I don't know it. It may take me a bit, but I'll pdf and email after completing.

Jim

If you're referring to the overhead, I have many 1" plastic caps you can use to fill holes that you have made in the overhead liner.  If you're referring to the ceiling, which is the side panels in the cabin (yes, boat terminology is different), it's helpful to take at least the top strake out.  On my boat they used overly long screws for the jib tracks on deck, and simply broke them off after installing.  I get leaks there, and over the years I have replaced some of the screws.  It's not easy, and takes two people working inside and outside.  On Ladybug one screw each side is behind the hanging lockers, and I can't seem to reach the nut inside so I live with a deck leak there.  Someday I'll find a skinny guy who can fit inside the hanging locker so he can reach the nut, and I'll re-bed the entire track on each side.  I think these were installed before the interior was done.
If you need more detailed information, let me know.
Peter

Here is a pdf of what Peter provided on our old site. There were some photos I could not locate, but what you really need to understand is there I think.
