Hi All!
Yes here in New York!
Glad to hear everyone and boats are fine.
And all things considered, all is well here.
Had no power, and no heat., but had running water (I'm in a 5 story building so didn't need a water tower to get city pressure, that's 6 stories and above), and plenty of candles and flashlights., and could cook by manually lighting the stove. I was luckier than many of my friends who lived further downtown, who had nothing at all. So I wound up having a number of people camping out here.
With no power for the fridge, we cooked a lot and at least ate well!
We finally got electricity back Friday evening.
Walking downtown at night (and trust me we didn't do a lot), was very spooky! This NewYork, and it was just dark. Dark. Dark. Dark. On the main avenues's you could see light from uptown which did not lose power, but the sides streets were pitch black. Even with the full moon, not enough light filtered down. You'd pass people in the streets and you couldn't make out the faces....
Here's a photo of Nutmeg from last Sunday evening, mostly stripped down and in the process of getting tied up. We wound up doubling, and at some points tripling lines. I'm normally a little further out on a floating dock, but the marina offered a spot on the main dock.
See the piling aft on my starboard side, behind my bimini.... well look at the next photo. Reports from the live-aboards at the marina, when the worst surge hit on Monday night, my all the docks, lifted up past the pilings. Two finger piers broke free, but amazingly it came down on the same spot.
Friends reporting back to me on Tues. said Nutmeg looked as if she'd never even been through the storm!
I was at the marina all this weekend helping with the clean-up, and they were right.
My marina sustained almost no damage (except debris) but the Huguenot Yacht club next to us didn't do as well. A number of docks lifting and came down onto the pilings, boats broke loose and many damaged.
Let's hope Nutmeg does as well in the N'orEaster predicted in the next few days.....
Sylvia
