Hi All,

I just re-read the previous posts here regarding rudder fixes including Dave Mcintyre's detailed fix. I was wondering if any of you had used Dave's method or if you ended up with your own variation for fixing a compromised core.

We have the rudder off and drying out and it looks like core is pretty much disintegrated and water is easily getting inside through a stress hole near the base of the post (see photo).

A few questions:

Does the Mystic 30 rudder indeed have a full metal skeleton (like an airfoil) that supports the fiberglass skin and not just a straight blade?

If it does have this structure, do you need to recore to prevent flexing or could it be stiff enough without adding foam?

Instead of using large amounts of resin to waterproof as Dave did, could you simply use an epoxy barrier coat and save adding weight?

Any other advice on a good fix for this is appreciated.

Why not ask Peter Legnos?  He usually know all the answers to such questions.
