Dragon magazine articles <snip>"
Just wanted to point out that so far, D&D Insider has been free, and a recent new post on the WotC site has indicated it will remain so for at least another month. As such, you do have to register to use the site, but it costs nothing, and you can download the articles--meaning that even if they limit access to archives after it turns subscription-only, if you download the material you have unlimited access to it for personal use.
Additionally, they have revised their plan for how to price D&D Insider, and have a graduated pricing plan that they are going to go with currently. It sounds much more reasonable than the initial full-cost plan they were talking about.
At any rate, some of the material that is from the setting-specfic books is actually being previewed in Dragon right now and in the next few weeks, including the artificer (and I think the swordmage will be previewed soon as well) meaning that you can gain access to at least those two classes without having to buy the Forgotten Realms book.
Just thought I would clarify that, since I'm on D&D Insider and plan to stick with it. I wanted people to realize what's available now for free so they can take advantage of it before the subscription-only stage kicks in. :)

"When I face the desolate impossibility of writing 500 pages, a sick sense of failure falls on me, and I know I can never do it. Then gradually, I write one page and then another. One day's work is all I can permit myself to contemplate."

Fairy tales don't teach children that monsters exist.
Children already know that monsters exist.
Fairy tales teach children that monsters can be killed.
