The time has come! Mysqlgame.com is up and running with shard 1 data.
From now on, anything that happens on mysqlgame.appspot.com is
probably not real. We'll be fitting the page with a redirect soonish.
For now, anyone on shard 1, go to mysqlgame.com and reset your account
passwords.

Let us know of any problems here. Thanks, everyone, for your
participation. Highly restricted database access is here to stay!

Is there any plans for the other shards? I'm on shard 2 and don't want
to restart unless I have to.

We will be moving all shards over; shard 1 is a sort of beta test for
our port.

No one will have to restart, although we don't have a plan for how
exactly we'll be handling the merging. We're open to suggestions for
the way that is the most appealing to players, keeping in mind that
some people have accounts on different shards tied to the same email.

Add the shard number in front of the row number, and pad with zeros for row numbers with less than 4 digits?

I don't have the most powerful rows by any stretch, but I'm up to 13
of them now (I just came back after about 9 months away) and don't
want to loose them. So whatever method you come up with for merging it
over works for me.

since not all shards are being moved in to the "real" server at the
same time, does this mean that shard 1 users will get an unfair
advantage over late shards?

also, how about a new shard where players are reset every 2 - 3
months and rankings are posted. This will prevent some players from
getting too big. right now as it stands, there are about 10 people
across the shards that have huge resources, making new players very
sad

I can't think of a reason it would make a difference-- The other
shards should remain up, hopefully, and when we make the move, each
shard will migrate a (relatively) current backup. But if you can think
of potential sploits or such, by all means, call 'em out.

And once they're all moved over, we'll definitely be trying out some
different shard concepts. Further restricted database access, call it?
That's a big part of the reason we wanted the freedom of our own
server. We'd also like to finally make good on setting up an all-bots
database, which will be fun for the hackers and also take some of the
pressure off of the all-humans database.

So does this mean we'll be receiving actual database dumps again soon?
That would be awesome. Also is this google group going to remain the
hub for discussion or is another type of forum planned?

I really appreciate that your working on the game again.

One issue that I have found is that I am missing a row creator that I
recently purchased on row 1241 which costs about 900 million. (I still
have the row creator on the google app version but it wasn't
transfered accross to the new one)

- Please add a message on the shard 1 game page that lets people know
that the game has moved.

- Another issue - I can't do anything (buy attackers / transfer money)
- however when I browse rows it uses fuel as usual.

This is because row_creators was left out of the initial migrate. It
should be there too.

Working on the other thing-- it's actually a bit tricky, since we
don't have shell access to Google, and you can't download your code
from their server, only upload. But the redirect should be up
promptly.

Now this one is weirder. What happens when you try to buy attackers?
Do you get an error message, or does it just hang?

Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks for the bug reports :) Adrian

When I try to do anything nothing happens (just hangs) - looking at
the http headers i see Status=Internal Server Error - 500

- is the capatcha stuff working or is it possible that is set to
display the capatcha but fails to do so.
- I have sent you an email with a some other information

Ah, thanks. You're right that this was related to the hours lock, but
I *think* it was just a data issue from the migrate. You should be set
for now, let me know if it happens again.

so how will you be able to combine the shards when most people have a
2nd account on shard1 under the same username?

I have done the password thing twice and still no email.

Peculiar. It's not getting to my ymail account either.

I'll email you a reset link manually, but I'm not sure about a long-
term solution. Might need to fiddle with the email to get it through.

It looks like yahoo is putting them in the spam folder.

Irritating. I'll put a note to the effect on the reset page.

Is the captcha system going to be put back in place on shard 1? It
would be nice if something could be done to slow the bots down a
little again. Gets kind of tiresome trying to outrun them all day and
night.

Yeah, I'm not sure why it's not working. I can't look into it right
now, but it should be running again soon.

I'm also planning to rename some elements to disable the bots, at
least temporarily, just to get an idea for how much human traffic
there really is. It might be that the bots-only shard should happen
before the merge.

Well, it wasn't working because it was never ported. Duh.

But it should be running now, and to celebrate I've given everyone
five free login hours! Yay!
