I work in a chemistry lab analyzing water samples. I was just given a 6P Ultrameter II from an employee who no longer needs it. I have three questions. 1. Do I really just pour the water sample in the sample cells? I don't need any vials or anything else? I just pour it in directly? 2. If my instrument's pH/ORP sensor was dry when I received it, do I need to replace it? How can I verify if it is working correctly? 3. What solutions do I need to purchase to use this instrument? Do you offer them separately?

Ask An Expert:  Thanks for your inquiry. The instruments really are that simple.

1. To get accurate results, you will need to rinse the sample cup 3 times with your solution, then pour in a fresh sample and press the measurement button. No vials, reagents, or anything else is needed.

2. If the pH sensor was dry when you received it, then it may need replacing. You can check its functionality by using the pH buffers. The pH buffer 4, 7 , and 10 are used to check calibration and accuracy of the sensor. From there you will know if you need to replace it or not. If you need to replace it, the part number is RPR. It can be found on our website under "replacement parts" for portable digital instruments.

3. The get the best results with that instrument, you will need the following solutions: 442-3000 (calibrate TDS), KCL-7000 (calibrate conductivity), pH buffer 4, 7, and 10 (calibrate pH/ORP). Resistivity is calibrated through the conductivity. All solutions are offered separately. It is best to get the 32oz bottles, they have a 1-year shelf life and maintain accuracy when stored properly.

If you need to place an order, simply visit MyronLMeters.com, find the products you need (you can search for the part numbers that I have referenced), then checkout. If you order online, you will save 10%.
