Buckley was the acting facilitator.

exception of these minutes.

Cell Phones – All cell phones will be turned off during the meeting.
Cross talk – Talking will be done only by those who have the talking
stick.
Non-present parties – We will not talk about those who are not present
at today’s meeting.

In Attendance
Dan Zeit, Peter Bergel, Carrie Adams, Tim Buckley, Linda Coons, Joanne
Scharer, Carlie Keever, Sherry Burge.

Comments
Dan – Proud of MyPeace. Negative behavior not professional. Would like
to see it go annual.

Sherry – MyPeace was an important idea. Sherry likes everyone in
MyPeace, but the core leadership of the project did not communicate
the original idea clearly enough. Too many events and not enough
support. The project needs more volunteers.

Carlie – Enjoyed MyPeace, did not like the tension, or being scared
and anxious. We need more communication, less events, more volunteers.
Carlie commended Carrie for organizing and Peter for mediating.

Peter – Impressed with what we did, achieved goals for this year. He
does not want to try to copy this year’s project to next year. There
were too many dropped balls; he was not surprised by that or by the
occasional tension in the meetings, but he did not like that. His main
interest is in advancing the project.

Sherry – Sherry said Carrie did very well and picked up many dropped
balls.

Joanne and Carlie – Both said that they have issues in their lives and
need to make less of a time commitment in future.

Linda – Spoke about the e-mail she had sent out “One heart, different
minds.” MyPeace was about allowing different points of view. We have
to find a way to facilitate together -- Have fun, go riding on the
carousel. We are allowed to be of different minds. She thinks that we
need a neutral facilitator. Linda went on to say that Jan Michael
Lookingwolf told a story about why, with all our gifts and benefits,
we are still not satisfied. That is what we are supposed to do. We
need to learn to respect diversity. We also need to learn to have more
fun. We also need to learn how we can cooperate mind-to-mind when
needed.

Joanne – Came into MyPeace at the mid point of the project. We need to
create peace within the group. We also need individual exercises to
take home. She also said that she has lived in Salem for five years
and that it is not her favorite place. We need a collective effort to
build peace within the organization as we do our own work.

Dan – we need to keep arguments civil. Set ground rules for committee
meetings.

Sherry – We should never be scared of any person. She agreed with Dan
about having guidelines for the meetings. People should find a way to
cool off if angry.

Carrie – Tongue-in-cheek suggested a punching bag in another room.

Carlie – Agrees with Dan, but feels that Peter is a great facilitator.
We should have one set leader of MyPeace. Someone who will contribute
to next year.

Sherry – Suggested social gatherings during the year to get to know
each other better.

Linda – Linda thought that we ought to have a neutral facilitator join
the group. She also suggested a family potluck and felt threatened by
deadlines.

Dan –Thought that instead of having all of the MyPeace events crunched
into a small amount of time, say a month, it would be better to spread
MyPeace throughout the entire calendar year.

Sherry – Sherry said that rather than have many events we should
perhaps have just one event.

Tim – Tim said he was surprised by people stepping into positions of
authority. He has enjoyed working with many different personalities.
He has also appreciated people working beyond their comfort levels. He
applauded OPW for taking on MyPeace. Tim also suggested orientation
and training for volunteers. He also said that he was disappointed by
the board’s non-involvement. He said that speaks volumes to
volunteers. Tim went on to say that, we need a model for volunteers
next year. Not so much responsibility per person and more volunteers.
He also said that we need fewer events.

Carrie – Carrie suggested taking MyPeace to the Interfaith Peace
Festival and become part of their event.

Tim – Tim left the meeting as of 1:00 PM.

Peter – Agreements need ground rules, which we agreed upon early on
and which were read at the beginning of many of our earlier meetings.
This year the ground rules were not always followed. He agreed with
Linda’s comments about needing more of a social connection in the
group. He told about Rosie Locati who used to act as social director
of Salem Citizen Action for Lasting Security (CALS – predecessor to
OPW). They met once a month for potlucks at a member’s home. The
social connection made Salem CALS the strongest chapter in the
statewide group. He thinks the future of MyPeace should be less
focused on events and more focused action derived from strategies
guided by our peace vision.

Sherry – Sherry asked what vision of peace Peter was referring to and
where he sees this going for Salem.

Peter – Peter said that Lennie mentioned that she would like to do
something more political, and David suggested a buy-local focus. He
suggested convening another meeting to decide where MyPeace is going.

Linda – Linda said we did not have enough communications. The notes
from meetings were not posted soon enough to have any good come from
them. She also said that she did not like using the Google group.

Carlie – Carlie asked the group if they wanted another meeting.

Dan – Dan suggested that we meet at a pizza parlor for a brainstorming
session about MyPeace.

Carrie – Carrie said that as “Task Mistress” she would ask everybody
to please write one paragraph of what MyPeace could be. She also
thought that we should combine a celebration and a brainstorming
session.

Next Meeting
The next meeting is set for Saturday January 8th at Dan’s house for a
potluck style dinner.

Meeting adjourned
Peter Bergel adjourned the meeting at 1:15 PM
