MyPeace Minutes for 1-8-11 Meeting

Ideas that were discussed:

1. A “Sustainability Chamber of Commerce" – seemed interesting to the group, but exactly what it might mean was not clear.

2. Common Good Bank – a national effort that interests Peter a lot and which he is working with Randy Jones on. Idea is to establish a national bank, with local branches, that operates like any bank for a profit, but plows the profits back into the community through grants to sustainable projects. It would serve as an engine to move sustainable projects forward in our community.

3. A Sustainability "Trade Show," either as an adjunct to Life Source's semi-annual parties or as a "Sustainability Village" at World Beat. This idea seemed to interest the most participants the most. A committee comprised of Dan Zeit, Mark Babson, Sherrie Burge and Linda Coons will flesh out this idea with the goal of generating a 1-2 page proposal to be used in pitching the World Beat leadership.

The committee will meet Wednesday 1/12 at 10 a.m. at Clockworks for this purpose. Other MyPeace folks are welcome to join them.

What about a state bank like the very successful bank in North Dakota, before going national.  I thought there was interest at a high level in Oregon for a state bank.

Folks interested in a state bank in Oregon should come to the City of Salem Senior Center (2615 Portlad Rd. NE) on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 2:00 PM. We will be doing a presentation on the state bank then.

The next Working Families Party (WFP) meeting will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Noon at Clockworks. WFP gets credit for developing and pushing the state bank idea.

Thanks!

There is a group working on that here too. The Common Good Bank has some important advantages. Check http://commongoodbank.com.
