for the site, please sign up. Any feedback both positive and negitive
is needed.
If you have time stop by the site and check out the changes. Let me
know what you think. If you come across any bugs, please report them.
I have some issues with the rich text editors in firefox. This may be
an issue if you are using the Project Workspace and are uploading
files. Everything works fine in IE as far as I can tell.
Try creating a project. The site currently only supports the "Public"
collaboration model right now so even if you select one of the other
models any registered user will still be able to join in. The other
collaboration models are more for offline bands that want to share
information. This feature may not make the Alpha.
The invite others feature on the project workspaces has not been
completed yet. You can do the main stuff though (upload mixes, add
comments). Uploads are currently limited to 15mb. If you have larger
files you can link them rather then upload. You will still be able to
track downloads on linked files.
- Profile Builder is now complete. Try cutting and pasting your
MySpace content into the rich text editor. It should preserve all of
your content including pictures and hyperlinks.
- You can now access your portal using a shortcut URL (for example
http://www.myonlineband.com/sharkboy )
- The "Invite Others" feature now works. You can enter in the email
addresses of musicians that you would like to collaborate with. The
system will send an email to each of the people that includes your
personal message, the project name and description and a link to the
project workspace.
- The "New Artist", "Top Artist", and "Artist Search" pages are now
functional.
- The "New Projects" and "Projects Home" pages are now functional.
- The "Post Comments" Feature of the project workspace is now
functional.
- The "Members Home Page" (http://www.myonlineband.com/members/ ) now
includes a list of all projects that you have started.
Bad news for mac users. I will not be supporting Safari until I create
a mobile version. The testing I did using the Safari beta for the PC
was real bad. Not even then menus work.
The site does support Firefox but there are still problems with forms
that use the rich text editor. I will probably add some code that will
display a normal text box rather then the rich text editor when people
use Firefox. The best user experience is still in IE though.

I have now fixed most of the browser compatibility issues. The site
works in all major browsers including FireFox and Safari. I have
tested using the Safari beta for Windows. If someone could verify on a
Mac it would be a big help.
For the image uploads, I now automatically resize the image so that it
wont be as distorted. I check to see if the image is larger then the
hight or width I use in the profile views. If it is I resize to image
to 150 X 150 but while maintaining the aspect ratio.
Also I have removed all of the menu items that go to unfinshed pages.
On the Project Workspace page I have made the file lists sortable and
have enabled paging. I also have the project members section working.
Everyone who uploads a file is automatically added as a member.
I should have the streaming audio up and running in a few days. Stay
tuned.

Also, I have a new file upload component that gives you feedback on
your uploads using a status bar. It fixes all the timeout issues and
is a much better end user experiece. I have also added streaming
audio. For this refresh, the streams are any availible on your
profile. By the way you can now upload an unlimited number of demo
tracks for your profile.
Check out my updated profile : http://www.myonlineband.com/sharkboy.
If you click "play", if you don't have the Silverlight plug-in you
will be promted to install it. Details will play the song on it's own
page. The song page can coontain lots of info about the song.
I have run into some issues getting this to work with Firefox. This
looks like it is a firefox bug that effects quicktime and flash as
well. I am looking for a work around. It works fine in IE and Safari
on the Mac. Silverlight is a great technology. It is, right now the
only way to stream WMA audio to a Mac. This is why all the other sites
make you convert everything to MP3. With Myonlineband.com, you upload
whatever you want and we stream it. The onlything I cannot stream is
MP4.
I need all of your help in building this community. Please try and get
on the site and forward this to your friends.
Anyone interseted in playing some shows in the New York Area to
support the site, please let me know. I am lining up some dates with
promoters and am working on a deal with Manny's music to help promote
the site.
