Dear All,

Welcome to My Malaysian Indian Bulletin Board (myMIBB). If you are receiving this email, then your email ID is listed in our mailing list.

Let's see what we have for you today,

From myMIBB's Table - Meetup for Tea - Penang - Brief Report
-------------------------------------------------------------
Around 12 of us mostly from Penang and Kulim met casually on 21 November 2015 (Saturday) over a cup of coffee at Jaya Restaurant, Seberang Jaya.

Other than having an informal chat and getting to know each other, 4 activities were proposed and discussed.

a) Right for Sight
This is a program where rural Tamil School students would be screened for vision by certified optometrist. Poor students that require spectacles would be sponsored one by kind hearted community members. We did this program 2 years ago and its good time to redo again due i) to the academic improvements it brought to the students whom received the spectacles, ii) students who received the spectacles would require a recheck to ensure if the lens power need to be re-adjusted, iii) two new batch of students would need to be screened in each school. This program can be slated for January 2016 when the school reopens.

b) Table and Chairs for Rural Tamil Schools
Been updated the table and chairs in some of the rural tamil schools especially in Perak are in bad condition. Assistance from the goverment are not holistic and only on ad hoc basis as the schools are categories as partially aided. Assistance seeked if the community can intervene. The cost of a pair of table and chair are around RM170-RM200 excluding transport. The furnitures are made from rubber wood and mostly comes from China. Looking for opportunity if it can be fabricated by ourselves, perhaps by volunteers or students doing MLVK (Carpentry).

c) Activities for USM Students
Professor Rajeswari shared the need to organize some activties for USM students that equipt them to be ready for the employment market. Looking forward to work with USM's Indian Associaiton and subject matter experts that could be of help.

d) Publications of Vacancies at myMIBB
Bharat and Vythinathan shared the need to spur for more vacancies related information in myMIBB. Would be encouraging more from the mailing list to share those information for the benefit to those looking forward to gain (better) employment.

From myMIBB's Table - Meetup for Tea - KL/Selangor
----------------------------------------------------
As mentioned earlier the next Meetup for Tea will be in KL/Selangor. It is scheduled for 06 December 2015. Sarojini is kind, she would be hosting our meetup in KL/Selangor. Those who are free for a meet up over a cup of tea in KL/Selangor may email me at svan...@gmail.com .Will update you privately once the venue has been chosen including those whom had email me earlier on intending to join.

-------orginal-Start------------
During the years of interacting with the members in our mailing list, many would invite for a cup of tea from various part of the world. As I am based abroad and can't immediately meet them, I often take a rain cheque. Whenever I have the chance I will try to arrange for a meet up as its always nice to put faces to the email IDs I often receive. So far I have met our members in UK, Germany, Spain and Portugal. Now, I am in Malaysia for a short vacation, currently in Penang Mainland, and scheduled to be in KL/Selangor and Negeri Sembilan (Seremban).

Community Driven Initiative - The Right to Sight - A Plan for 2016
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Refering to the several meetings which we have done in Penang, it was proposed for The Right to Sight is to be done for year 2016 due i) to the academic improvements it brought to the students whom received the spectacles, ii) students who received the spectacles would require a recheck to ensure if the lens power need to be re-adjusted, iii) two new batch of students would need to be screened in each school. This program can be slated for January 2016 when the school reopens.

We are looking for Volunteers to plan and drive the initiative with us for the various states in Malaysia. If you are interested to help do email me at svan...@gmail.com .
Note: We will include a state in our program for 2016 only when we have sufficient volunteers to lead the initiative in the respective state.

Background
===========
The Right to Sight is a community driven activity where an eye examination program will be done for under enrolled Tamil School students.  Many studies worldwide have pointed the vision and academic performances of students are inter-related.

Thus it’s important to ensure that all the students have good vision in order for them to excel well academically. In this program, students whom had been screened to have vision problem will receive a pair of spectacles for free courtesy of the community. Our pilot program in Selangor was successful then we explored Kedah where it has been successfully completed and now we have stepped to Penang, our final state for this program.

Objectives
-To do eye examination for all students from Tamil School that has 100 or less students at their school’s premise.
-To assist poor Tamil School student whom had been prescribed to wear spectacles by optometrist by donating a pair spectacles, reducing the financial burden of the poor family.
-Motivating the students to do better academically with their improved vision.
-To exhibit the caring nature of the community and corporate assisting the less fortunate.
