Let's see what we have for you today,
The Malaysian Indian's Bulletin Board (MIBB) - Thank You
We have published the below on our last bulletin. Thank you very much for all the support and words of encouragement. We will continue doing what we have been doing since the last 8 years. Glad to have you all on board.
----------original---------
Dear All,
As you probably be aware that our Bulletin Board has been in operation for more than 8 years. It has been a long marathon run, close to 700 bulletins has been published till date. Since its inception we have promoted our Bulletin Board as an "information disseminating tool", where when we paste an information on this board, we hope the members will come forward to read it. As we moved on, we introduced the concept of "pooling resources". In those days, usually I am the only one who work to excavate useful information. Via this concept we motivated the members too to come forward to share useful information around them where the have nots could benefit from it. We got very good response. We later included and promoted the "self-help model" in our Bulletin Board. In this model we encouraged the members to take action using the information provided in the bulletin to improve themselves. This basically targets the have nots.
As time goes by, we included and promoted another important component, that is "active citizenship". This time we targeted the haves to come forward to offer their expertise and resources to assist and guide the have nots. The outcome of this also has been very satisfying. The last couple of years I included and promoted another pertinent component -- "community driven initiative". It evolves from "active citizenship", where we give room for all to be involved in planning, fund raising and executing projects of their interest for the development of our community. Via this model, we will have the opportunity to identity and nurture many more leaders. We have ample of room for all to be involved. One single person can do only much, but via this model we could have multiplicative effect. Our community could benefit the most from it as they will have more activities to participate and improve themselves now.
Just to recap,
Information Disseminating Tool -> Pooling Resources -> Self-Help Model -> Active Citizenship -> Community Driven Initiative
Our growth was pretty much organic and am extremely happy to see the fruits of my experiments. Since the last 12 months we, via the members of our Bulletin Board have touched the lives of more than 3000 people that needed our help. We also via the members of our Bulletin Board have organized more than 100 beneficial projects for our community whether it was on small or very big scale since the inception of our Bulletin Board. Not all the activities were published on the Bulletin Board as we could solve quite a number of it on the background. We have not compromised our ethics and quality along the way in getting our work done.
Recently TheMIND Association's Management Committee have met and decided that TheMIND's Bulletin Board (TheMINDBB) should only be maintained as platform to disseminate pertinent information.
As we have grown so much and this decision in my point view is regressive, to respect the decision of TheMIND Association I think it is in the best interest of the community to go private and be a standalone activity.
Hence, we will change our mailing list's name from "TheMIND's Bulletin Board (TheMINDBB)" to "The Malaysian Indian's Bulletin Board (MIBB)" dedicating this to our community.
The change is just on the name, the rest is business as usual for us. Assured all the commitment I have given for the present community driven activities will continue as it is. Lets hope for 2014 with your active participation we could assist many more members of our community and organize many more beneficial activities for them.
Thank you very much.

The information was sent to us by one of our members who had been sending us lots of pertinent information which we had published previously. He passed away recently after sending the information, thus I had not means to verify this with him. The poor man would have not known that information he sent was not true. Sorry for the inconvinience caused.
Community Driven Initiative - ICT and Preschool in Rural School Kedah
In our Bulletin Board we have been promoting active citizenship to our members, where everyone are encouraged to plan, fund raise and execute projects for the development of our community.
Recently, our members from Kedah have done several interesting projects. SJKT Ladang Katumba is a rural school in Kuala Ketil,Kedah.
a) As ICT knowledge is important not just for its students but also for the surrounding community. They have setup an ICT Lab in the school so that the rural community is not left behind in this field. They aptly named the lab as "Sir CV Raman ICT Lab", recognizing the contribution of a Noble Prize winner in Physics. Hoping the students will be encouraged to reach greater height in ICT and Science. The album below will walk you through the journey the members of this Bulletin Board have gone through to setup the lab. They not only have planned and excuted the project but they also chipped in their money with other kind hearted donors for this purpose.
b) Statistics shows rural community often skip pre-school education i.e kindergarten. There are many reasons for this and one of it is lack of facility. The members of this Bulletin Board have spoken with the management of Ladang Katumba estate, where they have been given a shack in a temple compound to be used for this purpose. The famous poet Bharati had once wished to see temples to become schools. This team has realised it here. As the previous project, they chipped in their money with other kind hearted donors to make this happen. For the syllabus and teacher's salary I learn they are working with CHILD Association, an association specializes in pre-school education and its issues. They named this kindergarten as "Sri Ramalinga Swami Balar Palli". Do see how a ruined shack have been transformed into a beautiful kindergarten by the magical hands of these souls
The above two projects are not just successful projects but also pertinent ones for our community.
c) They are not done yet, they are working to setup another ICT lab which could accommodate 10 computers at SJKT Ladang Dublin Bhg. 5, a rural school in Mahang, Kedah. This lab will be used to expose ICT to the students, teachers and also to the surrounding community. The members from Kedah have chipped in their money to start the project, the construction has started and the building is in 60% progress
They were looking for further funds for the below, to assist them to move to the next phase of the development.
Estimation
a) Lab furniture - RM1,300
b) Workmanship - RM4,600
c) Grill - RM1,000
d) Sliding door - RM 600
Total - RM7,500
Glad to say we had 22 donors came forward to chip in the needed RM7,500. We later been updated this funds would not only would be enough to build the ICT lab but also to renovate a building meant to be used as a pre-school!
The next phase for the ICT Lab and Kindergarten is the installation of electrical wiring, lights and fan which is estimated to be RM2,000. Do inform me at
svan...@gmail.com if you would be interested to chip in for the above. For now we are just collecting pledges so we would know when to stop collecting funds.
Community Driven Initiative - The Right to Sight
The Right to Sight is a community driven activity where an eye examination program will be done for under enrolled Tamil School students. Many studies worldwide have pointed the vision and academic performances of students are inter-related.
Thus it’s important to ensure that all the students have good vision in order for them to excel well academically. In this program, students whom had been screened to have vision problem will receive a pair of spectacles for free courtesy of the community. Our pilot program in Selangor was successful then we explored Kedah where it has been successfully completed and now we have stepped to Penang, our final state for this program.
Objectives
-To do eye examination for all students from Tamil School that has 100 or less students at their school’s premise.
-To assist poor Tamil School student whom had been prescribed to wear spectacles by optometrist by donating a pair spectacles, reducing the financial burden of the poor family.
-Motivating the students to do better academically with their improved vision.
-To exhibit the caring nature of the community and corporate assisting the less fortunate.
