Putera MIC has launched a helpline to assist students who sat for the
SPM and STPM last year to gain places in universities.Can send a SMS
message to 012-5765653 or even e-mail your results and your choice of
field of study.They will advise on the proper way to fill the
forms.Past experience - students who had the results to enter a
university but were not accepted as many do not know what
courses/university to choose with the points they have. Most of them
give priority to the universities where the entry point is much higher

of the selected participants for the program before.Good luck guys.

Hi Saravanan,

I am a past participant of the IATSS Forum at its inaugral course in
2005. I would just like to say that only very few Indians attend this
course let alone apply for it. It has been advertised in the
newspapers all these while and until recently also in the net in our
website and highlited by NSTas some of our alumni are press reporters,
goverment servants, private sectors and the like.

Although it is quite difficult taking 55 days off from work but the
gains from this course far outweighs this issue. You'll be suprised
many employers are happy to allow you ito go provided you are willing
to make a consorted effort to apply.Imagine a first class paid holiday
plus allowance and you can shop at their expense. You are expected to
attend lectures, workshop, site visits, group study but all of these
is part of the fun n frolics that you will experience. etc

I strongly urge as many Indians to apply if you fall btw the criteria
stated. We have an alumni which is small but strong if you want to
seek advice.

2008 IATSS Forum - Deadline 30/04/07

The IATSS Forum is a programme which includes field trips to
Tokyo,Kyoto, Nara, Hiroshima, Miyajima island (the places vary by
year); seminars and lectures and a good chance to meet and live with
people from other ASEAN countries as well as the Japanese.

This program runs every year and is fully sponsored - IATSS pay for
airfare, board and lodging and will also give daily allowance. below

Road Safety Education Program - Enumerator Needed

Road Safety Research Center (RSRC), Universiti Putra Malaysia will be
conducting a survey for Road Safety Education (RSE) Program
nationwide. This survey will be carried out in TWO selected district
in each state throughout Malaysia. At present RSRC have identified
only one district from each state. Later, another district will be
identified in every state for the survey. This survey will cover all
primary schools {SK, SJK(T) and SJK(C)} in the district. The
respondents are Standard One students. The survey period is from 26th
March to 26th April 2007. The selected districts are listed below-

Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD), based in
Chiangmai, Thailand,is a regional network of women's groups and
individuals in Asia Pacific, committed to enabling women to use law as
an instrument of social change for equality, justice and development.
It works for the promotion of women's human rights, as codified in UN
international human rights instruments, including the Convention on
the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW),
and the Beijing Platform for Action. It has six programmes,
namely-Women's Human Rights; Violence against Women; Women's
Participation in Political Processes; Labour and Migration; Women and
Environment; and Rural and Indigenous Women. These programmes are
implemented by respective Task Forces and Working Group, in
coordination with the Regional Council and Programme and Management
Committee. The network has a Secretariat based in Chiangmai,

Programme Officer for Violence against Women
Qualifications
-Committed to the promotion of women's human rights;
-Must have a degree in social sciences; degree in law or advanced
degree in field of social sciences, human rights or women's studies is
an advantage;
-Must have knowledge of international human rights and development
issues in the Asia Pacific;
-Minimum of five years experience in development work and women's
rights at the national level required, and at regional level is an
advantage;
-Experience in working on issues related to Violence against Women
(VAW) and/or Women's Human Rights (WHR) is an advantage;
-Must have knowledge and skills in conceptualisation and planning of
programmes as well as implementation, monitoring and evaluation;
-Skills in research, lobbying and advocacy are an advantage;
-Must have excellent command of English language, both oral and
written; and should be able to write campaign papers, program reports
and project proposals;
-Must have good interpersonal skills, with ability to network and
liaise in a multi-cultural environment, through various avenues (i.e.
face to face and emails);
-Must have literacy in basic computer programmes such as word and excel;
-Must be able to work independently, and as part of a team; and
-Must be able to travel overseas as required.

Information and Communication Officer
Qualifications
-Committed to the promotion of women's human rights;
-Knowledge of international human rights and development issues in the
Asia Pacific is an advantage;
-Must have a degree in communications, journalism or advanced degree
in field of social sciences, human rights or women's studies is an
advantage. Relevant combination of academic qualifications and
experience in communications, journalism or related area, may be
accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
-Minimum of five years experience in communications, journalism
preferably at the regional and international level is an advantage;
-Must have excellent command of English language, both oral and
written-proven ability in writing, editing and publishing a range of
materials in multimedia forms for a variety of target audiences
-Must have experience in basic computer programmes such as word and
excel; managing databases and familiarity with electronic publishing
(CD-ROM and web page production), layout and desktop publishing
-Must have strong analytical skills in research, lobbying and
developing advocacy materials
-Must have good interpersonal skills, with ability to network and
liaise in a multi-cultural environment, through various avenues (i.e.
face to face and emails) and commitment to teamwork;
-Must be able to work independently, ability to work under pressure
and as part of a team; and
-Must be able to represent APWLD in regional/International formations,
conferences and forums

The contract is for three years, with a probationary period of six
months.The position will remain open until a suitable person is
selected. However, the first round of shortlisting and interviews
will be conducted for all those who send their applications before
April 9, 2007. The successful applicant must be able to relocate to
Chiangmai by end of May.
