Dragging items vs. multi select?

Hi all, so I like to do manual sorting of items and I drag the order of items pretty often.

The problem is that a lot of the time instead of selecting the item to start dragging it, MLO is in a "multi-select" mode where I end up dragging a selection box.

This is rarely what I want. Is there a way to change this behavior? Like maybe saying I need to hold down a qualifier key to multi-select?

Are you on MLO 6... I'm still using 5.1 but...

Are you talking a certain Windows OS (I'm on 11)?

On Win 11 or 10 I have been getting predictible results but never works as I need it to work on Android phone. I have to synchronize that with Windows just to be able to move tasks where I need. Makes it difficult to use Inbox as intended. Also there is a "Move to..." in the context menu (right-click or Ctrl-m) that helped me sometimes but not finding that option on Android.
