I'd love the ability in options to set a new project automatically to be "In Progress" instead of Not started. If I'm declaring it a project, it's nearly always going to be in progress. Also, pressing tab after pressing "alt-j" (the keyboard shortcut for a new project) should result in allowing the user to edit the status of the project with the keyboard's up and down arrow keys.

Thanks!

I'd also like the ability to set the default due date to today for new items.

This allows me to have new items show up in views that require due dates to have them seen, and keeps them on the radar until I set the correct due date.

I only mention this here, as it might be part of a larger New Items Default section.

This might go well with a previous suggestion to allow definition of "rules" or macros to have changing of some properties also change other properties automatically. I think this kind of power in MLO would be consistent with other features (ie, not feature creep) and would have a lot of broad uses.

I'm thinking of something like a rule/filter editor where you have the choice of:

"When" X (new task created, project attribute set, task completed -- this list could start basic and be expanded)
"Then" Y (change attribute A to value B)

(Personally I like Eudora's method of doing this, where each rule has an option to "skip rest" so that you don't apply later rules).

A lot of the code for advanced filtering could probably be tweaked to do this, since there is already support for mapping various task properties (e.g., Goal vs Completed) to the individual values they support (Week, Month, Day versus Yes/No).

In summary, I think a rule system would be an elegant/expandable model that could also cover default values.

Rob, if you are so inclined (and haven't yet), feel free to combine any of my ideas of features with whatever ideas you have and add them to UserVoice. I'm almost out of votes but I could spare some for this :)  mlo.uservoice.com
