is there a way to have recurring tasks show up at the bottom of my to do list when it is time for them to recur? i keep having the same few things appear at the top and don't always make it through my list.

Hi, Liz.
on windows: Bring up the view filter specs in the left had side
panel. Find the section that says "group & Sort" and click on
the button that says "group by". In the hierarchy of groups that
you see, find the highest one that says "none" then click on the
word "none" and from the menu that pops up click "recurrence".
Make sure that the "ascending" button after "recurrence" is set.
It should now look something like this:
click "ok"
You will now have a group of non-recurring tasks, followed by groups for hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly recurring tasks. If you don't like this, go to the bottom of the left side panel and click the "discard changes" button. If you want to make this permanent, click the arrow next to "discard changes" and select "save view"
If there's anything above that you don't know how to do, write back and ask for step-by-step directions.
There's no filter that I know of that says "if parent is
recurring"
I'm not sure if this would help you, but here is something that you may not have discovered yet. Make a view that shows only the recurring projects with subtasks. Then, in the filter panel on the left, in the GENERAL section (probably at the top) find the HIERARCHY button and set it to YES. Do you see a button just a little to the right that says "Config?" If not, try dragging the right edge of the sidebar to the right to make it bigger. When you get the Config button, turn on inclusion of children and turn off inclusion of parents. You might want to click on "set children filter" and set filters like start date has already arrived or will arrive next week or there is no start date, or set a cutoff for importance or exclude certain contexts
This will give you a list of all the children (that pass your
filter) of all the projects. I get the sense that you want two
sections in one view, nonrepeating versus repeating, possibly with
different filters, groupings, or sorts. I don't know how to do
that. It may be possible with very clever multilayer grouping and
fancy advanced filters. If I really need that I usually turn on
the "multiple instances" setting in Options>Behaviour and then
set up two horizontal windows, one above the other, with MLO
running in both but showing different views. This can be really
productive, but takes a while to set up and the next time you star
MLO (eg after a reboot) you have to do it all over again, so I
dont usually do this unless I really, really need it
