I would like to put a link to Lotus Notes document into Task Notes but
currently there is no easy way to do it.

There are two ways a document in Lotus Notes can be linked. Either with
Document link which is a multi line text containing XML or with
URL(which is called Identifier in Lotus Notes).
The URL works in other applications like Word when it is inserted as a
Hyperlink, or as Windows Shoutcut.
The Document Link works in MLO when it is put into a file with
extension ndl and then link to this file is put into Task Notes.
Clicking on such file brings up Lotus Notes displaying the linked
document. It is bit too complicated to be usable...

Here is a sample of the "Document Link" (sensitive info replaced with
****):

***** - Fw: Subject - Friday, August 18th - RESENDING
<NDL>
<REPLICA 85256841:00675245>
<VIEW OF5E502A1B:AAAF40CA-ON85256197:006C1A32>
<NOTE OFA77DEFA0:DD22953A-ON852571C5:00493458>
<HINT>CN=*****/OU=*****/OU=****/O=****</HINT>
<REM>Database '****', View '****', Document 'Fw: Subject - Friday,
August 18th - RESENDING'</REM>
</NDL>

Here is a sample of the URL (Lotus Notes document identifier):

Notes:///8525684100675245/5E502A1BAAAF40CA85256197006C1A32/A77DEFA0DD22953A852571C500493458

>From ease of use perspective, it would be nicer to have MLO support the
Document Link because it is much easier to obtain in Lotus Notes.
>From implementation point of view I guess it is easier to add support
for Notes:// as an URL.
In general, it would be nice if any text in the Task Notes could be
selected and marked as an URL.

I'm willing to help with testing when this gets implemented.

I like this feature request and would support it.
I'm willing to give feedback as well.

Microsoft Outlook & Exchange use also a syntax like that to access
stuff within Outlook. It should be interesting to support the same
thing for Outlook.

I'm wondering if this is the right way to request new features? If not,
what is? If yes, should we expect the developer(s) to inform us if
requested features are/will be considered or not?

Mlo should support registered standard links like file:// http://
outlook://

So if Lotus Notes provide standard interface for its link Notes://
then it should work in MLO.

What happens if you post your Lotus Notes to Explorer address bar?
Notes://8525684100675245/5E502A1BAAAF40CA85256197006C1A32/A77DEFA0DD22953A852571C500493458

Will it open the document? If yes then MLO should open it also since it
uses Explorer to open links.

I do not plan to implement any custom solution special for Lotus Notes
at the moment, sorry.

Andrey.

Andrey,

putting the above Notes://.... in the Explorer address bar does bring
up the document and if Notes is not started, it does start it up. Both
IE and Firefox work, the Firefox even provides a confirmation dialog
box saying:
An external application must be launched to handle notes: links.
Requested link:
notes://.....
Application: C:\notes\notes.exe -defini %1

I'm willing to help debug this issue.
Thanks,
Tomas

Any progress or outlook on this issue? Anything I can do to help with
it?

Hi, folks,

I'm new here, so excuse what may be an obvious question.

When do you use goals and when do you use projects? I understand,
technically, how to set these up in MLO, I'm just wondering when you
would choose one over the other.

And advice? Thanks!

Hi Ds,

Play with the program and find what works for you. In a nutshell, here
is what I do: I tag a task as a weekly goal if I want it to appear with
a little '!' and to jump to the top of my to-do lists. I do this for
very high priority tasks. I tag a task as a project if I want it and
its sub-tasks to appear in my to-do lists with the project name appended
(see tools/options/to-do list format).

Appreciate this is a very old topic. But I'm trying to do the same things using the Notes:// protocol. MLO doesn't seem to recognise it. Any ideas why this could be?

TaDa ... I've found a solution ...

type file: then paste the Notes:// link so that you end up with something looking like this

file:Notes://... etc

Works for me.
