The screen calibration on my old Palm TX is starting to fail, so I’m moving over to Android, on a HTC One, now running Android 4.3 (and HTC Sense 5.5).

My desktop setup is Outlook 2003 service pack 3, running in Windows XP 5.1 with service pack 3.

I’ve been keen to find Android solutions to Outlook’s Calendar, Contacts and Tasks.

My desktop is now using MLO for Windows Pro 4.2.1, and the Android is using MLO Pro 1.6.9. I paid for the Pro version so I can sync by wi-fi.

I’d like to be able to

Add Tasks on the desktop, for things I may need to do in the future,

and at the same time

Check off, or defer, or add, on the handheld, for the Tasks I’m completing at the moment

And at the end of the day, synchronise my changes so both sides are updated.

When syncing Outlook to Palm, any Tasks that have been changed on one side are updated on the other.

Any Tasks that have been updated on both sides are duplicated, so I can review them, and keep the one I want.

On the Wi-Fi Sync, the Android version offers two choices for dealing with conflicts, on the ‘both sides changed item’ option

Apply server version

Use local version

From my Outlook/ Palm experience, I expect the MLO sync to merge the Windows and Android data, updating both sides for any changes made on the other, and only giving priority to one side in the event that the Same Task has been updated on both sides.

However, rather than ‘Synchronising’, what seems to be happening is the entire *.mlo data file is simply Copied from one side to the other, in the specified direction.

Can this be right, or am I missing something?

I’ve had a look online for advice, and in Jun 212, ‘Dwight’ described the same situation, at

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/mylifeorganized/both$20sides$20changed$20item/mylifeorganized/7GeDqZjqQq0/DmMPq_q--QgJ

It looks like I have to get real disciplined about syncing, after every single edit on either platform, maybe dozens of times a day.

In Jun 2011, ‘yurkennis’ requested an improvement, at

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/mylifeorganized/both$20sides$20changed$20item/mylifeorganized/NTDsynZlgCk/nFDF5jA5E2IJ

I wonder, has any progress been made to add more functionality to the sync feature?

I don't use Wifi sync but I'm pretty sure it's working well lately, and provides task level sync. The one issue that has been raised that I can remember is that syncing two different mobile devices to the same file (maybe the same computer) requires re-pairing ie, doesn't really work easy.
