Hi, I'm a GTD person who just jumped back into MLO after... 8 years away!
I think MLO will work very well for my GTD but one thing I can't figure out is what to do with reference materials, such as notes, links, and the like - How do you set those up in MLO? Or do you keep them in separate systems?
Looking forward to learning how you do it!

Just a quick think, since the note in each task is so simple and only text, I like to paste a URL and that could point to data anywhere in any format, for example local file path, online, even other applications (I would like to use The Brain 8 more since I own it).

Hi, in addition to what imajeff noted, I offer a couple of thoughts.

1) I feel MLO notes are best when they are short, including just-in-time (JIT) information and links to additional details in a separate system. The JIT information may be reference details (street addresses, dates, times, phone numbers, email addresses, URLs), procedural details (steps, tips, reminders), and someday maybe data (next time, try doing it this way). Some MLO users may feel differently.

2) If you use two (or more) systems, I suggest making sure you don’t misplace your data. Suppose one records some additional details related task. Later one returns to that task and, not seeing the previously created additional details, re-creates those additional details. The method I use is maintaining a hierarchy (in RightNote) matching my MLO task hierarchy. So, I know where any additional details would be if there were any, even if I forget to record the link in MLO. I’m sure there are other methods.

cheers,
..jason

In a perfect word, Evernote would allow app links to work outside of Evernote.

FWIW,  Microsoft’s OneNote which I mainly use for note taking supports a universal link if you have an Office365 licence.   If you right click on a page title in OneNote and select Copy Link to Page,  it copies two links to the clip board which you can paste into a Task Note.

The first one is an https:  URL which takes you to the page in a browser from which you can select a menu option to take you to the same page in the Desktop app

The second link  is one that begins with onenote:  which if you add <file:  to the beginning becomes clickable in MLO and which then takes you to the page in the Desktop app

Cool. Thanks.

Yes, adding "file:" to the start of a URL in an MLO note makes it clickable.  Confirmed with RightNote and Obsidian.
