My 'FILTER on FLAGS' stopped working

For years I have had some views that only showed tasks that were filtered by FLAGs.  I would check the FLAGs in the Filter/Flags area to the left of the screen. Recently I started GROUPing task, but now even when I turn GROUPing to (none)  my FLAG FILTER doesn't filter.  And it puts any task without a FLAG at the top of the list.  

My FILTERing on CONTEXTs still behave as expected. Its only FILTERing on FLAGs.

It seems that if I turn 'Show Heirarchy' to 'Off' my Filter on Flags stops working.  I can still Filter on Context or Text, but to Filter on Flags I have to turn Show Heirarch back to On

This seems to have changed some how.  Should I just save a back up copy and reinstall MLO????

It's working fine in my copy of MLO, whether I show as a hierarchy or a flat list. I think it's most likely you've got some other filter criterium which is causing everything to be filtered out. Maybe the best thing is to create a new filter, starting from a full hierarchical or flat view and then applying your criteria one-by-one. If you start by applying ticking the flags you want, in the filter list, you'll see at what point the tasks all disappear.

Thanks for your response.  Yes, I think you are right about me having some subtle feature turned on without me knowing about it.  So starting from scratch sounds right.  But how to do that is my challenge. I would think that my first Tab, My Workspace, would be a plain vanilla hierarchical view.  But when I turn Show Heirarchy to 'No' my filters stop working. If I turn it back to 'Yes' they work

So How do I start with a Flat View or  Plain List??

I appreciate your thoughts.

I may also just save everything, and uninstall and reinstall MLO.

Difficult to diagnose this one. Filters definitely work on flat list views - only the items which satisfy the filter get shown. Maybe you've got some kind of filter affecting the parent item (eg setting different criteria for parent and child filters, which is something that can be done in a hierarchical view)? You could create a new filter, with no filtering criteria but with hierarchy deselected. After that, try adding your filter criteria one by one, until you find what it is that stops your filter working as you intended. 

It takes a little time to work out exactly how advanced filters work, but it's worth it if you want to view things by custom criteria.
