Hi all,

I've been using this tool for 2 weeks and I have to say that I am
pretty excited about it. However I found a few functions missing that
would be great for me and I assume for many others as well.

Is there a way that I can let a new task show up as status 'new' or
with a color or something in the Todo list. For e.g. I have a task
that has a start date 1-1- 2011. Now it will show up in the Todo list
on 1-1-2010. But I can't see in a blink of an eye that it's a new task
unless I read all the tasks in the list all the time. This way I will
now that it's a new task and not one that was there already. I
currently have found that I just mark it with a reminder so I know
that it's new. But I don't find this ideal as I think the reminder is
supposed to be used for what it's for and that's giving reminders.

- Another thing I find missing for myself is that I have certain tasks
on my projects lists, I have done an action for it, but at the moment
I am waiting for someone to come back to me. I add an additional
context with 'waiting for' so it shows up in the waiting for list, but
in the projects lists I can't see in a blink of an eye that the
particular action is now in a waiting status.

I think that both my questions could be solved if there was an option
to give a task a status with text an color coding in a column. Is this
option already there or is there another way of achieving this?

Thanks!

From what I understand you have said Roger, the automatic formatting
rules should solve your issues, if you have the Professional Edition.
(Tools/Options/Automating Formatting).

For the first issue, just create a new rule with the condition that a
task has a certain colour (text/background/side bar/ highlight) or
even format (font/emboldened etc) when either the creation date is
within X days, or the start date is within X days. Or you could have
apply an icon to these tasks which says "NEW", in which case in your
todo list, you'd have to add in a column to show task icons of
course.

As for your second issue, I'd recomend the following (although
everyone will have a different way of doing this). Create a category
called 'waiting for', as you have done. Then create an automatic
formatting rule that gives tasks with this category a specific format
(grey background? or bright red text? etc). (Be careful of where you
put it as these formatting rules are done in order and you don't want
it over-written by another rule.) Then go into the contexts editor and
assign a hot key (say, 'alt W') to this category. What you'll have
is that any for task that is in 'waiting for' mode, simply press 'alt
W' and the format of the task will toggle 'Waiting For' format on and
off.

By the way, there's a free programme called IcoFX which you can use to
create icons from pictures saved from the internet and just drop these
new icons into the MLO icon folder if you need additional icons - I
use it all the time.

Thanks for taking the time to write the detailed explanation
Chuckdevee. I will play around with it to see if Auto formatting will
do what I am looking for.

Thanks again. Appreciated!
