I am thinking of resubscribing to MLO after a period of enforced abscence, but I need to be certain the latest version will work on my Fire 7. When I download the apk it fails to install, giving the message 'same package with a different signature already exists'. Any suggestions, please?

It looks like you are trying to install the beta version over the public version, or vice versa. If that's correct, there are two options:

-  If you do not need the old data in the application (or you have a backup on desktop/in the Cloud), then you need to find the application and delete it for all users of the tablet, if there are several. After that, install the application, public or beta version.
-  If you need the old data, then please check which version you have. In MLO go to Settings-> About. If you see the numbers in brackets, then this is a beta version that can only be updated to the latest beta.

Thank you, I thought it was something like that. I'm on 1.6.9 and will look for beta updates.

I may have been premature - 1.6.9 (free) was a paid version that downgraded because I couldn't afford to continue subscribing.Which apks should I look for, please?

As I can see you have a not beta, but a public version which is no longer supported. In this case the only option is to delete the current app and install the latest MLO 3 for Android.
BUT before you do this, you need to transfer your data to the MLO Cloud. I've sent you an email with instructions.
