I am trying to email reminders, and I couldn't, despite every tweak I
could think of, get the configuration to work. I'm using Win7, so I
don't know if the security settings are wrong for stunnel, I'm an
idiot, or ports were blocked, or something else completely.

But I finally found an SMTP mail server that doesn't require the
security protocols... lavabit. So I just successfully sent myself an
email reminder (to my gmail account) using the lavabit account. It's
free, and painless to set up, so in case someone else has the same
challenges I do setting up gmail as an outgoing reminder service, you
can use my service.

Next step: texting reminders :)

I'm against geeking around with tweaks. MLO (or MLO Cloud) should be
able to provide this feature instead of relying on you sending smtp
messages to a mail relay server TBH.

Feature implementations in MLO mean such a big lead time...

Thank you for this!  It worked for me on Windows 2007. I set up the lavabit email to forward MLO reminders to my gmail, which it does beautifully.  I went a step further and after following the instructions below (full page here) I was also able to set up my cell phone to receive sms text reminders by setting up a gmail filter.  Caveat: The text message includes task notes and could therefore be quite long.

If you found a better way to text reminders, please post!

  1. gmail2phone
Log into Gmail and at the top right, go to the Settings page. Here, go to the “Forwarding and Pop/IMAP” tab.
  2. Under forwarding, select the option to forward your emails and for the email address, enter your phone number @ the appropriate service provider (see the list below).
  3. That’s it! Try sending yourself an email and see if you get it as a text. You can always disable it by going back to that menu and selecting “Disable Forwarding”. (If you want to set it so that only specific emails get forwarded, you have to set a “Filter” to forward them; check the Filters tab in Settings.)

This can be done with any email provider that allows forwarding and any cell phone service that provides an email SMS gateway. Check below to see the list of the most popular email to phone addresses. Simply replace “10digitphonenumber” with whatever your phone number is (including area code). So, an example would be: 21255...@vtext.com

OH BOY I can relate
II wanted to use the feature that MLO boasts - email reminders - where It sends the reminder
but - as of yet - I cannot find an email that works with it:
already tried: Comcast, Hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc.
