I have been thinking about picking up the latest MacBook Pro. The only
thing holding me back is no MLO for the Mac OS. Are there any MLO
users out there running MLO in Windows on a Mac through either Boot
Camp, Parallels Desktop, or VMware Fusion? If so, what is your
experience like in terms of performance or battery life? Do you use
Boot Camp, Parallels Desktop, or VMware Fusion, and why?

I would appreciate any insight that you might be able to provide.

I have run MLO under Wine and CrossOver. Using CrossOver is pretty straightforward and much lighter weight than running full-blown Windows.

Thanks for the feedback Justin, I will check it out. You mentioned
that you "have run MLO under Wine and CrossOver". Does that mean you
are no longer running MLO on a Mac, and if so, why?

Not necessarily--CrossOver Mac has been in existence for at least a year. Not sure about generic Wine.

For those to whom this thread is getting obscure: CrossOver (by CodeWeavers) is a commercial product that originally ran Windows software on Linux, and now does the same on MacOS X. It's based on the Wine (Wine is Not an Emulator) free software project.

For another data point, I've been running MLO on CrossOver Linux for at least a year now, with few hiccups (beyond those other Linux users have mentioned). I'd be confident it would work the same way under Mac, but I have no direct experience.

I have recently installed MLO under Crossover Office (currently
trialing Crossover), with Snow Leopard on a mac mini. It seems to work
pretty well. Some of the shortcut keys do not work, though that just
may be my ignorance with Crossover. But it syncs up with the file
that I have synced on my a web storage site, and so allows me to stay
current with my "at work" file from my windows machine.

Used to run MLO on a 2006 model MacBook pro via Parallels. Now I run
it on the new MacBook pro 15'' 2.2Ghz, also via Parallels.

Works absolutely perfectly (which was not the case for Crossover).
Performance is fine on both the VM and host machine.

Running Windows 7 I keep the VM to one CPU core and 512Mb RAM. Giving
it more or less seems to make it slower.

I always resented having to run a Virtual Machine just for MLO, but
after at least 10 abortive attempts to move to Omnifocus, I gave up
and realised it is worth it for MLO.

I am too moving to a mac; i have this at work and can use MLO.. the only issue that i am having is that i cannot sync to my android device as the IP on the VMware does not give it the same IP as if it were on the network.

Has anyone gotten this to work?

I'm using Parallels to run Windows 7 from the bootcamp partition on a MacBookPro. MLO runs fine so far except for WiFi sync to my iPhone. The desktop version reports 10.211.55.4 as the IP address to use. I type it into the iPhone and I get the message "Cannot connect to this PC..."

If I reboot into Bootcamp, it will pair using the 192.168.x.xx type IP address that the desktop version reports when running in Bootcamp. I can't get it to work under parallels. I had been using WiFi sync for years on my Windows XP computer. (I did unpair that computer before attempting to pair with Windows 7  under Parallels.)

Has anyone been able to get WiFi sync to work under Parallels?

The following port should be forwarded from Mac to Parallels:
2103
21030
21031
On you iPad you should specify the IP address of your Mac (not
Parallels). When iPad connects to Mac by this IP it uses one of the
listed ports. Since you configured the forwarding the request is
transfered from Mac to Parallels and you should be able to sync.

When using Crossover, the WiFi sync information box on the desktop
displays a generic IP address. Therefore, the iPhone will not sync if
you enter that address. Users must go into Mac preferences to locate
their IP address. Once you enter that address on the iPhone, wireless
sync works perfectly.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

!Doh! Thanks Alexandra! I didn't even think of that and only looking at ways to NAT.
Crossover w/ wifi sync is working perfectly.

@Ron - i am using VMWare - i bridge the Wi-Fi connection and thus do not forward any ports. This may be an option in Parallel.
