WiFi sync and changing IP addresses

I've got WiFi sync working Ok, but every time the IP address changes
on my laptop computer I have to re-pair using the new IP address. This
causes warning about already being paired, merging data, etc...

IP addresses change, there must be a better way to deal with that.
Having a static IP address isn't the solution as I sometimes work on
more than one WiFi network and I want to be able to sync to my laptop
no matter where I am working.

btw, the automatic discovery feature for my PC has never worked -
nothing is ever listed in MLO. I always have to enter in my IP address
manually. Can't there be a way to pair by using a computer name
instead of an IP address?

What are the consequences of allowing MLO to merge in the case of just
the IP address changing (i.e. syncing to the same MLO file on my
desktop).

We had some difficulties to implement support of the computer names.
It does not work sometimes considering iOS-Windows network protocol.
We are working to improve this module and add auto discovery feature
and computer names in new versions.

Thanks for looking into it, Andrey.  If you could get auto discovery working, based on computer names or MAC addresses, that would be an excellent step forward for those of us who use WiFi synching.

My desktop machine gets a new IP every time I reboot it as well (with Microsoft Windows that's nearly every week). I haven't found the router controls to assign static IP's yet.  If we are tied to the IP for Wi-Fi, what about something like a USB sync?

MLO supported USB sync a long time ago but nearly everyone liked WiFi better. It does have issues if your IP assignments aren’t stable, but the cloud sync does a great job avoiding ip address issues.

Good day, my mobile phone and notebook computer obtain different IP addresses each time I connect to my work WiFi network. So I need to re-sync the two machines every time for MLO.
I see this discussion has started in 2011. Have ways been developed to resolves this syncing issue now in 2016?
Please advise me how I can keep devices synced even when dynamic IP addresses get assigned on WiFi networks.
Thanks, Rudolf

Any news on this subject?

It's pretty annoying to 'Unpair' the Wifi sync settings after a IP change.

Why is it not possible to just edit the 'PC IP address' field in the Wifi Sync settings on iOS?

I've switched from cloud sync to Wifi sync because of privacy concerns. I hope the developers will enable encryption on the cloud files! Then I will switch back to the cloud.

+1

Moreover the best solution would be to have a possibility to sync via file. Android version should have an option to read MLO file from filesystem, and user could sync files as he likes (gdrive, rsnyc, dropbox, syncthing via own NAS).

I have MLO 2.0.0 Pro for Windows and I thought it brilliant that I can sync a ml file on Dropbox. However, I need to open that file on Android but the MLO there has no option to open a file..?

Wifi sync is broke non purpose. Desktop and Android sync is broken so that you would buy Cloud sync. MLO is made to be money sink.
