Hello,

Is it possible to have a simple gantt chart for our tasks ?

I believe it will be very helpfull for handling tasks. Also it will be
easier for us to see how we are overloaded/busy and so on. It may help
us to assign correct timeframe for a given task by using gantt chart
or calendar.

Thanks.

Much requested/discussed feature but can't see it happening anytime
soon.

So, any external software solutions for a simple gantt chart please?
Thank you

Many graphical features have been requested, sadly none have been
delivered. With all focus on new mobile platforms I can't see it
anytime this century,
Really what MLO needs is a huge development team!

Anyway, power on them. As MLO license owner, I keep my fingers crossed.

Probably MLO developers are good GTD-managers, but this is not enough to be perfect team-leaders and entrepreneurs.

How do you think, if we ask Andrey to add a new functionality of export tasks tree to some Gantt-chart software, will he agree with that?
Taking into account that he is not going to make his application heavier, but pays much attention on extending of MLO functionality through adding "export" and "synchronizing" features, he would agree with the idea to improve MLO at the expense of third-party Gantt software export.
From this point of view, we should make an agreement about which Gantt software we prefer to work with.

Besides this possibility, MLO exports to tab delimited, xml, and Mindmanager XML. Chances are some Gantt software can import Mindmanager xml, or it shall be feasible to make a converter that will take MLO xml and convert to Gantt chart software, which is something that can be done without relying on Andrey's plans.

That might be the harder part IMHO :)

Current export options should suffice. Also, MS Project can import via
Excel or Outlook which MLO can xml to or sync with respectively. The
one export option missing (which I think is a serious omission these
days) is OPML.

For me this is one of the most efficient ways to solve the problem, as my company uses MS Project actively.
Let Andrey make this functionality to be perfect.

To be honest, I have not realized yet, whether MLO exports only Outlook tasks or Calendar arrangements also. And have no idea how to export data into MS project.

could you detailed explain how to import to project via excel?

Not really for this forum, but for example MS Project 2003 data is
usually imported via an import wizard. Suggest you google "MS Project
import wizard" for details.

Just working with MindJet and the addin "JCV Gantt Pro", was shocked
by the simplicity of MindMap - Gantt chart sync, direct and reverse.
Taking into account that one of the MLO competitors has already
integrated MindJet sync plugin, I would really ask Andrey to thing
about adding the same feature to MLO - MindJet sync.
It would solve the long lasted talks about Gantt chart lack.

I would also ask Andrey to think very seriously about this option as JCVGantt Pro is the clearest way yet to visually organize, manage and communicate project plans and schedules and would be optimal as MLO companion.

One note - JCVGantt allow to set hours as a time unit, but developers forget that when we have hours as units, it means that tasks can start not only in the morning, but any time during a day.
This is silly, first of all,
and also is not convenient for Andrey to sync with it.
my God, how it difficult to find something suitable...

Please, friends, leave here your messages to support the issue to make Andrey pay attention.
I think the more of us agree with the JCVGantt sync function, the quicker it would be realized by developers.

It's free and may be worth looking into the possibilities.

As I've noticed before, this particular addin does not allow to set minutes as a time unit. Moreover, there are no fields to set task's start or end time. Only dates. http://forum.us.mindjet.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3669
Yesterday downloaded MS Office 2010 with MS Project. I will check the usability today in the evening and share my impressions here with you.

Now I can only say that MS Project is a perfect tool for Gantt charts. Amazing tool. I'm truly excited.
I need nothing more, but MLO - MSProject synchronization would uplift me on the seventh heaven.

I was a long-time MS Project user (from version 2) and a beta tester
on Project 98.

I think there are some project management features that MLO should
incorporate and have working-- for example, designated a Folder as a
project and completing all of its subtasks STILL does not have the
Project show as 100% complete.

The bigger issue for MLO is to have it related to time, which it
currently isn't. You can set deadlines for things and MLO will warn
you simplistically (based on how long you've asked for lead time), but
MLO does not do any calculations to determine when things will happen
in reality, which is almost a must in any personal productivity
system.

Since MLO is aimed at personal productivity, getting MS Project
involved is beyond overkill. I feel that if what you're doing is
sufficiently complex and you have access to Project, build it out in
MS Project, then put an item in MLO to "Work on Project".

I like Gantt charts UNTIL I have anything other than a waterfall of
dependencies (meaning each task depends on on its predecessor). Gantt
charts start to fall apart when there are multiple dependency
relationships. Gantts will tell you when things are going to happen
(which MLO is missing and should have, IMO), and in some way, what
depends on what else.

Enough people are asking for it that I think Andrey should take a stab
at making it work with another freely available solution (export to),
but I would like to see the time-management stuff sorted out first.
