How do I remove a dependency if I no longer want to link a task or project to the completion of another task?   Is there a way of doing it without deleting the task (dependency) from the outline?  When I select a task or project with a dependency in the outline, the dependency shows up as a task in the Dependencies list.  If I right click the dependency in this list and select "Remove Selected Tasks...", it will ask me if I want to remove the selected dependency.  When I click "Yes," nothing happens.  The dependency is not deleted.  What am I doing wrong?  By the way, I am unable to check the checkbox for the dependency in this list.

Thanks for your help,

Brian

Hm. I'm not actually familiar with the "dependencies list" - I'm very
new to MLO. Usually one task is dependent on another if it is a subtask
in the outline. What if you just moved it to a different place in the
outline? Or is there a trick to making things dependent that doesn't
involve them being subtasks?

I remember what solved this issue for me was I tried to remove the
dependency like maybe 10 times, and it finally worked :)

Got it!
You have to drag your mouse over a dependency so that it could stay
"selected" after you move the mouse away from it. Or click your mouse
in the "Dependencies" box and then press any cursor key. Then the
dependency will be selected too.
Only after that, the "Delete Dependency" thing works.
I hope I am clear enough.

R.M.,

In version 2.0 of MLO, you can make tasks or projects dependent on other tasks located elsewhere in the outline, so they won't show up in the To Do list until after you have completed the dependency.  They don't have to be located in the same branch.  This is different than completing subtasks in order.  My problem is that I haven't been able to undo the dependency function once I set it up unless I actually delete it from the outline altogether.  That really shouldn't be necessary.  Dependencies is a "hidden" feature of version 2.0.  If you have version 2.0, but Dependencies is not activated for you (it should show up as the last item in the Properties panel on the far right), you should consult the archive for this list for how to activate it.

Dmitry,

I do exactly what you suggested.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  The checkboxes for items in the Dependencies list are not always responsive when clicked.  I still haven't figured out why, but being able to check them off seems to be essential for removing the dependencies.

Thanks,

Brian

You should *select* the items you want to remove first. This is done
by holding Ctrl key and clicking mouse on the region which is on the
left or right from the dependency task caption (see picture attached
with 77selected region in my next message).
After you select one or several items you can remove them.
The checkboxes just indicated the completion of the tasks and they are
not working properly sometimes (will be fixed)17

The selection will be improved in final release of Dependency
function.

Ah! Okay. My answer was kinda useless then, but it looks like you got
one, and I learned something. Thanks!

I have just improved the selection process of dependencies. The
checkboxes indicated the completion of the task have been removed due
to confusion for many users. The completed tasks are strike out now.

BTW even now you can also use keys to select dependency (Shift+Down)
and then press Del to remove it.

It certainly was misleading since you didn't mention what version or
that it was only projects.

Still, I am in 2.0.0 Pro but I see absolutely nothing about
"dependencies". I cannot even find any single mention of it in the
Help file ?!

So someone please point me in the direction to start using this
feature.

The task dependency is *undocumented* feature of MLO version 2.0 for
now. We did not have time to add support of it to Synchronization,
Import/Export  and to PocketPC. It works great however on Desktop and
you can start using it if you want. To activate this undocumented
feature you need to add the following key to your registry and restart
MLO ver. 2.0:
-----------
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MyLifeOrganized.net\Debug
UseTaskDependencies = 1  (DWORD)
----------
If you know nothing about the registry just download, unzip and double
click *.reg file and it will do it for you:

Ok this is how I think you should write it in a post:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MyLifeOrganized.net\Debug]
"UseTaskDependencies"=dword:00000001

because I simply copy/paste this to a file and don't have to look for
a .reg file to download. This tells me everything if I wanted to enter
it manually, in case I know how to do that
