I created a ToDo list with an advanced filter for CompletedDate. One
of the options for the value to compare this field to was
"StartDateTime" (under Fields). What does that refer to?

StartDateTime is the task start date and optional start time. The
format is the same as the CompleteDateTime field you used.

That was not what I was asking.

In the Setup Advanced filtering box, one can basically create a rule
that says "CompletedDateTime on or after StartDateTime". I am just
trying to understand what the usage of such a rule might be.

Thanks!

Option "start date" makes task visible in todo view from set date.

I just played around with it and it seems to be for saying (if you use "on" instead of "on or after"), "show me all the things I completed on the same day they started."  I can see that this could be useful.  You have to set the filter to "Completed" for it to work, apparently (otherwise I got strange results of tasks that weren't completed yet).

I suspect that what functions are shown is dependant on the type of of the field, not whether it makes sense.  Ie, all functions that apply to date/time fields include the function, "StartDateTime".  I verified this - you can make a rule that "StartDateTime on or after StartDateTime".    It's probably useful for another date field, which is why it is available.

Hi Lisa,

Just love how you're becoming an EXPERT in MLO Advanced
Filtering ! :-)

Yes you are correct. The idea is that in advanced rules you can use
not only constants but other fields(!) with the same type.
For example:

1) Show all tasks which contain their task Caption in their task
Notes:
Rule:
Notes | Contains | Caption

2) Show tasks which have StartDate = DueDate
Rule:
StartDateTime | on | DueDateTime

And so on. Not all fields are listed in the combobox so you may type
them manually.

As I said the possibilities are endless.

Andrey.
