I may not complete a re-occuring task task so would like to postpone the  task to the next day, can I do this simply?
thanks

Hi, Frangipani

There are several ways to deal with this. It depends on what exactly you are trying to accomplish. I will give you two examples.

You have a task that reoccurs every weekday. You are away on vacation for a week and when you get back, you don’t want to click the completion box five times to get the due date updated to today. So you can right-click the task name, and from the menu that pops up you can select  “skip occurrence…” then “skip all occurrences up to today” and “ok”.

Or, you have a task that reoccurs every day, and you would really like to do this task every day but in reality you miss it about half the time. You are tired of having to go and check it off for the days you missed. So you can change the recurrence pattern to “Regenerate task [1] day(s) after task is completed” – now, if you miss a day the task will show that it is overdue. When you eventually complete it and check the completion box, the task will regenerate with tomorrow’s date.

Hi, if the suggestions I sent are not helpful, please give more information. Give an example of a task that you might like to postpone. What is the start date and the dure date? What is the recurrence pattern (for example, "reoccurs every 2 weeks on Tuesday") When do you realize that you want to postpone it - on the day it's due? the next day? or what? When you postpone it, what should the start date, due date, and recurrence pattern be?

Frangipanni,

If I want to postpone a recurring task without skipping or changing the recurrence, I simply add a subtask called "delete this task" and set it to the date I want. Then when it appears on my to do, I just delete it and the original recurring task shows up.

If I have a recurring task that I need to postpone the current occurrence of, I simply check it as completed and then uncheck it again. This generates the next occurrence as normal but then leaves the current instance active. I can even edit the due date if I want without affecting the next occurrence.

You need to make sure you are in a view that doesn't hide completed items or you will have to go searching for it, and also that the item is set to keep completed instances.
