Hello,

I am agree with KennyWhat.
This feature is very useful for Android.
When you are near to some shop it could remind you to buy something.
Or when you leave home then it could remind you to take umbrella :-)
This feature could simplify our life :-) !!!

And I suppose that implementing of this feature will not take much time.

Thanks,
Artem.

One question, Artem, - are you walking everywhere with turned on GPS?

Andrey is already working on this for Android. I've not had a chance to try it yet.

Artem it is interesting that you say this will be easy to implement.  What makers you say that?

cheers

When the feature will be implemented I think that I will turn GPS on for all day.
Additional I plan to use external Bluetooth  GPS with battery and charger in my car.

I am not familiar with Android programming but right now the nearby feature is
already implemented and I suppose that adding bring up reminder when you are near of some location will not be very complicated (in comparison with other more complicated features).

Indeed, a location reminder would be pretty cool. On the Android beta
one of he views is location, which is attached to your contexts. Kind
of neat too, and almost there...
Re relying on GPS.
I run android, but also the PC version, and there are enough
capabilities to locate yourself (in Europe) using router location
data, or cell phone triangulation. These are often accurate from
exact address to about a half a kilometer, good enough for most
location needs in this case. So GPS need not be run 24/7. Also my
version of android shuts down the GPS when my screen goes blank, so
the power drain is limited.

Yes this is correct. We are working on it. It is not such easy if you
want to keep battery alive. More details later.

Andrey is right-on about battery life. I purchased an app awhile back that offered a similar feature, but it drained my battery so quickly that I removed it from my device. I also have a golf GPS app that I use while I am playing golf for about 4 hours. I have to use an additional battery (mophie juice pack), plus disable my 3G service, reduce brightness of the screen, and use other power-saving techniques just to make my phone last the 4 hours I am using that app on the golf course. So adding this feature without significantly reducing battery life will be a challenging task for Andrey and his team.

We have a few ideas. Will have a blog post about it.

FYI,
You can also use network based location. It has enough precision (in the United States) to get witin 20-30 meters which might be useful to most people. MLO just has to be developed to use the course as well as fine position.I also use the ID of cell towers to automatically determine my location. If a location has WiFi with an SSID you can use that as well.I use amAndroid app called "Tasker" to automatically enable and disable battery hogs like 4G based on my location without ever using GPS.
My vote would be to enable MLO to use a variety of location determination methods. This would let the user pick the method that works for them.
