What is the difference in just recurring a task every (x) days vs regenerating a task every (x) days?

As I recall, a recurrence is saying I have to do this ever (x) days. Regenerating is resetting regardless if done. I could be wrong....

Recurrence every week would recur to 1/1, 1/8, 1/15...

Regenerate every week begin on 1/1, then I mark it complete on 1/3, so it regenerates to 1/10, then I mark it done on 1/11th, so it regenerates to 1/18th.

Always regenerating to 1 week after I mark it complete.

CAVEAT: I never use regenerate, so I might be wrong.

You're right, and it's useful to have both

Put the bins out for collection - every second Wednesday
Mow the lawn - 10 days after it was last done

Don't forget the bathroom. Have to keep that clean too.

Also worth remembering that, for example, if you have a Recurring weekly task that is overdue and you complete it, say, a day late, the next occurrence will be in 6 days time eg 7 days after the initial date.
As Michael states above, a Regenerating weekly task when completed, say, a day late, would generate a new task a week (7 days) later.
