Would be very useful to extend some formatting/colour options to the
"Encolde Project Name" section. Find this in Options/To Do List
Format. This would mean of course having multiple string formats on
the same line. Would help to further improve the clatrity of the To Do
list - making it more clear when tasks are part of a project.

What would you like to do that you can't already do with the "automatic formatting" rules?

See a line in my ToDo list, with the project name prefixing those
tasks that have projects, but the project name itself in very light
grey, so that it is de-emphasised. Although I can create a separate
column for projects, only about 50% of my tasks are projects and this
wastes a lot of room in my ToDo view. At the moment, my ToDo list
items show up as

<Project Name> Task
<A Different Project Name> Another Task
Another Task

Basically, I'd like to be able to de-emphasise the project names so
that the tasks are more clearly shown.

With formatting rules, you can't format part of a task line.

What is the status of this 2011 request?
Is it currently possible to de-emphasise the project name (plus associated prefix & postfix text)  in the to-do list views?

Thanks

No, that's not possible, John.

Slightly more of a problem for me, you can't truncate the project name either, unlike how you vpcan truncate the task path name if it isn't in a project.

One option to try: under Options - To-Do List Format, you can put the project name after the task description, instead of in front of it.

I personally like how it is today, as it helps me see why I'm doing the task.  I do make sure that my project names are reasonably short, to assist in the view.  If I have a long name, perhaps I didn't focus down enough to the end goal.  At that point, I shorten the name and put the rest of the details in the notes of the main level.
