Hello,

I guess that, at least for the time being, we can say goodbye to a Mac
OSX version of our beloved GTD App. Not that I understand that
decision while putting out versions for iPad, BlackBerry, iPhone,
Android, ?Windows Mobile?...

I imagine I have to find a workaround that works for me. I'm exploring
Parallels and it looks doable, but I'm having trouble with keyboard
shortcuts. I seem to have discovered how to issue "Ins", but I can't
seem to be able to issue Alt+Ins.

Any helpful should out there willing to give me a hand?

Thanks in advance,

Marc,

Have you looked into and/considered using Crossover to run MLO on your
mac?

How can crossover make this any easier? Mac OSx keyboard does not have
INS key...

Really hate having to fumble around with these things. MLO team is
sooo lucky to have put together such awesome app, yet they are soo
mean when they leave us out... It is disappointing.

Blame Apple not the MLO team for using a non standard keyboard and
mouse. Mlo works fine with the PC keyboard it was defined for.

Hi Kitus,

fn + enter = insert

Whats does alt+insert do?

Maybe use Hotkey under Options to change that key combination to one that is compatible with a Mac keyboard?

Hello Jonathan,

Alt + Insert = insert sub-task. Really useful. I use it a lot.

Yeah, I can consider defining hotkeys for that, but I was hoping I
could issue native MLO commands...

thanks

regarding crossover: Crossover is based on "Wine", it allows users to
install and run (many) Windows applications on mac OS X without
needing to dual boot or virtual a Windows OS within mac OS X.
so far, I've been unable get MLO v 3.6.1 (for Windows) to run on my
macbook (OS X Lion).
I need to spend more time troubleshooting it (next week).
If I can make a portable app of MLO that may work with crossover.

Alternatively, I KNOW I could use VMware Fusion or Parallels and run a
full Windows environment within mac OS X...but I don't really want to
do that if avoidable.

regarding a mac keyboard not having an [Insert] key, I use a full
sized mac keyboard connected to my Windows PC.
I used a free utility called "KeyTweak" that will help you map any key
on a physical mac keyboard to any key that Windows is expecting.
For example: I mapped the physical key [Clear] on my mac keyboard to
[Insert]...when I press the [Clear] MLO inserts a new task.
When I tap [Alt]+[Clear] MLO inserts a sub-task.

The next step will be to use the vb script another user created to
automate sync'ing.

My next project will be to create a stable multi-user environment for:
windows users, mac users, and their personal mobile devices.
I'm thinking a single database that each licensed user points to
(residing on a network share) + mobile users will rely on MLO's cloud
sync service (paid).
The structure will likely be: \root\Inbox , \root\department\user

Hello Ben,

Thanks for answering to my post. May I ask you how far you are with your troubleshooting? Did you manage to run MLO over wine? I really hate having to fumble around with workarounds... Don't want to kick a dead horse, but I so much wish Mac OSx was taken into account...

Thanks in advance Ben

Hello again Ben,

did you ever get MLO working with wine/crossover? if so, did you manage to also be able to sync to cloud sync? I keep getting Server Response: "OLE error 80020006""

It looks like I need msxml6 and IE7. I've been looking for information on this around the internet with no luck so far. Mac OSx version of wine does not include winetricks but I managed to install it following this http://code.google.com/p/winetricks/wiki/Installing .

Now I fail at installing msxml6. I keep getting

"sha1sum mismatch!"
Checksum for /Users/marc/Library/Caches/winetricks/msxml6/msxml6_x86.msi did not match, retrying download

I would so much appreciate it if you could explain what you did should you had managed to solve this problem.

Writing from my phone so I can't search the archives. If you search my posts you might find the answer. You might also try the wine Mac Ports mailing list.

Cheers

Mark,

I'm really really happy right now. You know what? When I attempted installing msxml6 yesterday, I was travelling by train using a 3G usb stick. Apparently, the downloaded data got corrupted underway... My system was spitting out warnings, errors, exceptions, etc. I just finished executing the very same commands, and it all installed effortlessly.

winetricks msxml6
winetricks ie7

Launched MLO, and voila!!! it works. Need to fumble a little bit more with key remapping and I'll be all set. Too bad I can't drag Apple Mail mails into MLO, because that would be awesome... wine can do magic but can't do miracles. If MLO design did not foresee Apple Mail integration, that's about it, will never be able to fill the gap.

Mark, thanks again for your support.

Regards,

Hello,

As I said yesterday, I can run MLO on my Mac just fine but rght now it is dumb. It seems to be only displaying static information; when it is running on my Mac, it won't recalculate stuff. It seems to no more know that the time is running.

Can anybody explain why is that happening. Am I missing any windows module?
