Hello

It would be nice to have new option to hide task in todo until reminder.

Could you add 2 new options to "Setup Reminder" dialog:
  1. Hide task in To-Do list until date of remind
  2. Hide task in To-Do list until remind time

This settings handling should be similar as "Hide the Branch in To-Do" setting that we have in the task.
"Hide the Branch" works permanently but these options should hide tasks temporarily.

It would be very useful to minimize list of items in To-Do cause these tasks will be alerted for me in needed time.
Advanced view filtering is not so useful because it allows hide or show all tasks with reminder but some flexibility is needed.

Hi, Mikhail. If you set the start date and time for a task to the same value as your reminder date and time, the task would be hidden in any to-do list that shows active tasks. Would that take care of this issue for you?

Actually in that case you don't have to change it manually. The start date will track with recurrence when it is completed.

So, suppose you have a task, "Water plants every week", due Sunday at 6pm, and the reminder is for Sunday at 3pm.. If you set the start date and time also to Sunday 3pm, and then you complete this week's task, both the reminder and the Start date/time will be moved to the next Sunday at 3pm, and the task will not be active until then. (And, the to-do list by default lists only active tasks). If you only set the Start date and not time, it will show up active every Sunday with no time set.

If I had time to think about your proposed options I would probably argue against them. Hide-in-todo is currently a static property of a task. It would be confusing to combine this with dynamic properties. However, I would suggest it could be added to the proposed (but not promised or addressed by developers) automation idea that gets proposed every once in a while, where the user can say, "When X, then Y". There could be, "When reminder time hit, turn off Hide-in-todo". But I like start dates better because they are designed to be dynamic.

Lisa should work for MLO.  Lisa you really understand this system. Thanks for the analysis and tips. John

I've understand your notes about start time. And see that it's really useful for recurrent tasks.

But exists another scenario:
  1. Regular task. Start date = today (without time)
  2. I handled task partially and need to suspend it a little and continue in 2 hours
  3. So I will set reminder for now+2h and continue to handle other tasks.

Exactly in this situation I would like to do not see task in active todo list.
It's not a problem if I have only 1 such task.  But It's really annoyed if you have 10 or more.

I've realized that I may change start date+time each time but it's not very convenient to change every time 2 fields (start time and reminder time).

Could you do something with it?

If you change the start time, the reminder time will track. So if the start time is changed, the reminder is changed by the same amount.

But what you are saying is that you want to show tasks differently. Perhaps you could create a custom view that shows what tasks you want. If you use "ActiveAction" in a filter on the desktop, it allows for this, and then you can put "StartDateTime after tomorrow" or something like that. (Despite the name, the ActiveAction filter is not quite the same as the Active Actions View).

But the default Active Actions views are based on the definitions outlined in the user manual, accessible through this page, toward the bottom: http://mylifeorganized.net/downloads/index.htm , page 37 -- quoted below.

Default To-Do List Views
When you create a new MLO data file, the standard To-Do List Views are created. You can also create
any custom To-Do List Views.
Below is a description of the standard To-Do Views.
Active Actions
This is the basic view for generating To-Do lists in MLO. It is important to understand how it works since
many views are based on it. The following tasks appear on the To-Do list in Active Actions view:
1) Tasks without open subtasks (whose subtasks have all been completed)
2) Tasks that do not have completed parent tasks
3) Tasks without a Start Date, or whose Start Date is today or in the past
4) Tasks that do not have the option Folder checked
5) Tasks that do not have the option Hide branch in To-Do List checked for this task as well as for any of
its parents
6) If one of the task's parents has the option Complete subtasks in order checked, this task must have all above siblings completed - or these siblings must have their Hide in To-Do or Folder option set.
7) Tasks that do not have dependency or these dependencies are completed
