This might be a repeated requested, but I cannot find existing one.

Could the Past due date group be segregated into multiple time segments?

The current approach of grouping everything beyond last month into one past group eliminated extremely useful time dimension orientation information.

To keep things simple, consistent and not unnecessarily overwhelming, the proposed grouping below seems more functionally (cognitively) appropriate.

I propose to break down current single past group into 5 groups:

Past (variable number of days)
------------
Last Year (365 days)
This Year (variable number of days)
Last Quarter (90 days)
This Quarter (variable number of days)
------------
Last Month (31 days)
This Month (variable number of days)
Last Week (7 days)
This Week's Days (variable number of days)

Are you for this? Are you against this?

I think this would really help me a lot with motivation to get things done. Without it, I'm time-blind about how long it has been since I should have ideally have done that thing.

Mirrored grouping should also work the future timeline grouping.... this quarter, next quarter etc. But I'm not sure how that one looks like currently,  I generally only operate in past due date territory :D

Oh I see the problem and possibly the reason for the current approach.....

What I proposed works nicely only in second, third, fourth quarter of the year.

In first quarter  the grouping logic breaks down.

Which brings us back to the for surely already discussed topic of due date grouping being done in an absolute (calendar date) or relative (number of days between due date and now) fashion.

I personally prefer the relative approach, but I am not a "calendar person" as majority of users probably is.

So what can we do about this in absolute approach?

Let's say it Jan 10:
-------------
Last Year Past (Q1-Q3 of previous year)
This Year (not showing up)
Last Quarter Past (Oct + Nov)
This Quarter Past (not showing up)
Last Month (Dec 1 - Dec 31)
This Month Past (not showing up)

Let's say it Feb 20:
-------------
Last Year (Q1-Q3 of previous year)
This Year (not showing up)
Last Quarter (Q4 of previous year)
This Quarter Past (not showing up)
Last Month (Jan 1 - Jan 31)
This Month Past (Feb 1 - let's say Feb 6)

So..... it looks like that it would make sense to always show and separate the tasks from the sorted list into "Last xxx Past" groups and only show "This xxx Past" groups if there are task that don't fit into the last groups.

It might be a bit confusing that the grouping can change significantly from day to day, but that's an aspect of the current absolute calendar date grouping anyways already.

Funny - hi fellow MLO user.
This request i am repeating since long on various conversations.
However my request extends to all date-related grouping options available - i am looking back- and forward often time depending on the usecase.
Best would be obviously in the grand scheme of things:
- to start with the advancement of groupings
- then later add GAANT for the better visualisation of the tasks from the same view

So @MLO team this would be really nice. And shuold be easily to implement for the groupings as it is only a minor tweak to the current grouping algorithm.
