Relative path links to files?

Andrey and all,

I carry MLO in a USB stick along with plenty of my documents. I heavily
use file links in my tasks, but the paths to those files are absolute.
With the USB stick, however, you just can't know what drive letter the
USB stick will get. The problem seems to be that i can't create
relative path links to those documents in my MLO task notes. I manually
tried to make the paths relative, but that doesn't seem to work.
Logically, if a file link points to just a filename (without a path)
then MLO should look for it in the same folder where the .ml file is
located, right? Is there any way we can have that in an upcoming
version? I am sure it will be very helpful to folks who carry MLO
around (there seems to be a growing interest in this type of
portability, it seems--due, no doubt, to the the rapidly higher
capacities and trivial cost of USB flash drives).

Thanks.

-ilias.

limitation:
Relative links which step up from mlo.exe folder like this
file:..\..\..\MyFiles\file.doc
will NOT work

Relative links which step down from mlo.exe folder will work:
file:file.doc
file:Files\Work\file1.doc

Good thing you clarified that, because that's exactly what i was going
to try :) It's ok. I am sure we can all live with this limitation.
Thanks a *lot* mate! Awesome!

Cheers,

This featuer is implemented. Now MLO will open such relative paths also

Excellent Andrey! Thank you so much.

Now, i know i may be nitpicking here, but what if I *always* want to
make relative links? It's a bit of a pain changing the path manually
everytime (especially if one uses this feature as much as I am starting
to use it).

How could such option be implemented in an elegant way without
cluttering the UI and confusing the user? Perhaps it's something to
think about, so to complete this feature.

Which reminds me.. any chance we can have global search & replace??
That would be so helpful!

Thanks.

This is already implemented. Try "Insert a file..." command from local
menu of notes. You will be prompted to convert a link to relative if it
is possible (the link is on the same drive) and you will have an option
"Do not ask this again". Enjoy.

I am missing something! :oS

First of all, I am not prompted to convert links in the latest beta.
I've tried links to the same drive and differrent drives to my mlo.exe
and my mlo.ml files. Also if I manually create the links up from the
mlo.exe folder - nothing happens when I click on them.

Secondly, is it not possible instead of using the mlo.exe folder as the
base to use the .ml file location instead? The reason is I have MLO
installed on my computer hard drives because of the activesync
connectors but carry the .ml file and all my other files that I want to
link to on my USB. I think others would have the same setup.

Thank you!

It should work in 1.7.0.92 beta-7+ if you select a file which is on the
same drive where mlo.exe

>Also if I manually create the links up from the

the version where links up are working is not published yet as I
remember

I think it is great idea. iLiAS? Others? I think I want to change it
the way Kudos propose. Please comment ASAP since I plan to release
final version soon.

I fully support the idea of providing links from the location of the
MLO .ml data file.

I vote for that as as well. I think it makes more sense, since usually
the .ml file is in a documents folder, and that's where a user keeps
all his/her other documents as well. I think it makes a lot of sense.

Cheers,

Changing the .ml folder as the default for linked files sounds like a
great idea to me.
