Hi
Is it possible to let new tasks inherit the tag / text tag of the parent?

Background: I want to make a view on my tablet that shows the next actions of the projects in a folder called "IOT". I tried to set a condition based on the folder name, but that doesn't show the next actions, so I added a text tag and filter based on the text tab "IOT".
However, if I add a new task, I have to add the text tag every time otherwise it will not be shown.
Perhaps there is an easier way to get this view without using (text) tags?

Cheers

Hello Arny,

The first thing is that no, it's not possible to customise the task properties which are inherited by a child or sibling task, unfortunately. You can only control inheritance of dates (with limited control) and contexts are always inherited (whether you want them to be, or not). I've long argued for the developers to introduce customised inheritance or preset values for a range of properties, but it doesn't look like that's ever been a priority for the MLO team. I guess the more people that vote for that, the more chance that we'll get it, though.

Now the good news: I'm sure that it will be possible to set up a custom view for what you want, without having to create a text tag. I tried the following, successfully, although we might need to change it a bit to get exactly what you want:

I created a folder called IOT and put a few test tasks in it. I set the General property for that folder "Complete subtasks in order", which made the first of the subtasks active and the others not acitve.
I then created a filter (or view) with the following settings:
  • General --> Show: Next Actions
  • Advanced --> Setup --> Add rule --> Foldername is 'IOT'
  • If you want a flat list, just showing the active tasks in IOT without the outline above that level, select General --> Show Hierarchy: No
It works for me and is much easier than setting up a text tag for each of the tasks you want to view. Does that do what you want?
If that filter works for you, you can set up a view with that filter predefined. You can also copy the filter from your desktop MLO to any copies you're running on Android or iOS.

All the best,
Stéphane
