1981 India International Year of ChildNGC Ultra Proof Cameo(UF)PF 65 -Bombay Mint
Mint Mark (Proof):"B" below the 'YE' of 'YEAR' Sets Sold :Few Hunderd No Unc Set was issued
Above is the 1981 India International Year of Child Ultra Proof Cameo Coin which is NGC certified (UF)PF 65 minted at Bombay mint.
This is the best Indian Commerative coin in my opinion. This Proof Set is very rare as Only 2 Proof Sets and One Piedfort was allowed for one Person.(Piedfort is a coin often exactly twice its normal weight and thickness. The name derives from a French word meaning "heavy foot".They are normally not circulated, and only struck for presentation purposes by mint officials for collectors or VIPs. )
In the Year 1979 UNSECO declared the year as the “International Year of the Child”. The proclamation was signed on January 1, 1979. Numerous events took place within the UN and in member countries to mark the event.Event was intended to draw attention to problems that affected children throughout the world, including malnutrition and lack of access to education. Many of these efforts resulted in the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.
India and quite a few other countries released a coin in the year 1981 to commemorate the event. The event has many firsts to it.
- There is only one Pie Fort coin issued in India and its to commemorate the “International Year of Child”
- First time a commemorative was released as a Single Coin
- First time there is no UNC Set
- First time there are no coins for regular circulation.
-There was only Proof Set released
Above Image is the Obverse of International Year of Child Proof Coin.In Image you can see a Girl in center doing Bharat Natyam (Indian Classical Dance). On her left, a person is playing 'Veena' or ' Veenai' (Ancient Indian Music Instrument) ,on her right a person is playing 'Dholak' (North Indian Music Instrument') and her top two person are playing 'Tanpura' or 'Tambura' (Ancient South Indian Music Instrument). On extreme Left is the logo of United Nations and On right is the logo of International Year of Child .On top in Hindi written is "अंतर्राष्ट्रीय बाल वर्ष" and at bottom in English written is " International Year of Child " and below the 'YEAR' there is alphabet 'B' is written indicating Bombay Mint and above the English Legend 1981 is split in '19 ' and '81' just below the foot of dancer.
