Thanks for the answer! I did all these procedures several times, but nothing helped. The first thing I wanted to do was reset the administrator password, but for that I need to get into the terminal. But when you turn on the mac, he immediately asks for wi fi and goes to the Internet for recovery, and there he asks you to enter the apple id that was left from the previous owner. He handed me the computer after he performed the procedure of erasing the mac. But it doesn't seem to have erased anything.

I'm sorry, my friend, but unfortunately, the previous owner did not prepare that computer properly for transfer, and now you're the victim of that ignorance or carelessness. If you cannot contact that person, then you have a high-tech doorstop on your hands.

Used Macs must absolutely, positively be prepared for sale by following What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac - Apple Support as D.I. Johnson wrote.

It says the same thing about needing a T2 security chip, or an Apple Silicon processor; and macOS Catalina or later. There are a couple of extra requirements, involving two-factor authentication, and security policy.

I lost apple ID and I have no way to restore it. The computer was working properly and I always used the administrator password, that was enough. at one point, the administrator password stopped working after incorrect input. I decided to reset it via the terminal in recovery mode and reinstall the system at the same time. after erasing the disk, the mac asks for the Internet and loads the window with the activation of the icloud and I can't get into the recovery menu. The mac does not respond to key combinations when loading.

On other mac models, for example, mac book air 2015 or my aimak 2013, I did this procedure when I lost my password. The question is why I can't get into the disk, from there I can change the administrator password and reinstall the mac OS. Now I see more limited functionality in activation mode.

I get to this page every time I turn it on, it takes a long time to load something from the network, about 25 minutes, then the activation screen appears. CMD+R does not respond to commands. I may not have an apple ID, but I should be able to reset the administrator password.

In Russia, Apple equipment is most often bought in large chain stores and when buying it, sellers activate it, create some kind of account and give a person a password and then he lives with this password written on a piece of paper. then a piece of paper comes out, the blog is lost and the administrator password remains, and then it is lost.

At the least they should work with the buyer to personalize the setup of the Apple ID and password for each customer... and stress the importance of keeping that info available through the life of the computer.

But... computers are appliances these days. We techies have some understanding of the critical nature of these features, but the vast majority of the computer using public, globally, do not. They don't care. They don't want to have to care. They just want to use the silly things. Me, too!

Dear D.I. Johnson, I see you are competent in the use of apple technology. I want to ask you again about my situation. I did an experiment with another mac. I have a mac book air 2015. I booted from a USB stick, erased the disk and installed a new system. and Mac didn't ask for the ai cloud password. an absolutely clean operating system has been installed. Why can't I do the same with the 2018 mac mini. why can't I get into recovery mode.

I'll have to admit my impotence in front of this computer. I switched it to DFU mode and it didn't help either, the new system doesn't boot to the end, the process lasts a few minutes and then gives this error. all other actions in apple configurator do not work either. he does not want to boot from a USB flash drive, he does not want to switch to external disk mode either, he took an external disk with the installed system, but it also does not load from it.

Okay I'm going make a long story short I own a MacBook Air. I bought this MacBook Air yesterday off someone and they didn't take anything they gave me the password and everything but they took nothing off so I decided to reset the whole system to its factory settings so I followed the usual steps ( from a tutorial on YouTube )

I don't know what to do, since I have tried redoing these steps on multiple occasions this day, and with two different networks(my network & apple stores wifi). I have to install the OS through internet (or if it is possible, by downloading the OS to an USB stick, and then installing through that).

Anyways, I started searching forms online to see if there was anything that I could do but all I can really find is make a bootable UBS drive but how can I do that if I only have 1 Mac and I don't know anyone else who owns a Mac. Every other computer system in my home is PC... I don't have any type of knowledge on macs so If anyone can help me in any type of way I would greatly appreciate it...

When you download Mavericks to the USB drive it's not going to allow you to run the Mavericks installer. You need to buy an external drive then install Mavericks on the drive. You can then boot from the drive to recover your data and install a working OS X on the internal drive.

My wife has an older MacBook that runs Lion. It can't run anything above that. I formatted her drive and attempted to reinstall and got the same message. I opened a shell window and confirmed I had an Internet connection.

This actually helped me. My dad gave me his old MacBook (Late 2008) years ago and I have since purchased a MacBook Pro (Mid 2012). I tried resetting the 2008 Macbook to the factory default so I can sell it on eBay. Since I have 2 macs I tried the bootable drive option(I did the Yosemite 10.10 upgrade) that people talked about, but when I finally booted off of the drive it said, "This is not an authorized way to install the OS". According to this website my laptop should be able to run Yosemite 10.10: -your-mac-run-os-x-10-10-yosemite/ If it really can run Yosemite then the bootable drive doesn't seem to be an option anyways for this problem in the topic. The way that your post helped me was that you tried a different apple ID. I used my father's apple ID since it was originally his laptop and it worked whereas I got the "This is temporarily unavailable" notification when I tried my own apple ID. When they say" This is temporarily unavailable" it is probably just their less rude way of saying, "This laptop is suspected to be stolen and we will not service it for you". My MacBook 2008 is starting to download OS X Mountain Lion right now I'm guessing this is some type of security feature so if someone steals your laptop they can't simply format the drive and try to reinstall the OS to use it as their own. However I don't know how people are supposed to sell it then. A seller doesn't want to give their buyer their apple ID just so they can download the OS. I've read a few posts saying they purchased the laptop online and had this problem. I can't imagine how frustrated I would be if that happened to me. Since i'm selling mine I'm going to be nice and have the latest OS already installed and ready to go then i'll sign out of my apple ID. Hopefully years down the road when they want to format their computer again they don't run into this same probably. According to the posts the only other way people got their macs to work was taking it to the apple store. That probably is the easiest way to solve this problem if not the only way if you are not the original owner of the laptop. If you can't bring it to a Genius bar then maybe calling support would help. You probably have to explain your sob story to them, but it appears you have no other choice. I've tried all suggestions in this post with no success until this last one. My conclusion is that if you are not the original owner of the laptop you need to: Contact the original owner for their apple ID(preferably family since anyone else would strangle you for such a request), Bring it in to the Genius Bar(Hopefully they won't charge you), or Call Support(Hopefully they are helpful).

I have tried to reinstall the MacOS via Internet and after selecting language option, it reboots right back into the window where I can select the reinstall, utility and other options. I have done it a couple of times and reboots right back into this window again. So, I've made a USB bootable MacOS Catalina and when I click the Install Catalina OS, it goes right into the prohibitory symbol screen. I have tried reset NVRAM and after that booting the Air with holding option key do not go into the Startup Manger anymore. Instead, it goes into selecting a network. Once I select my Wifi network and put in my password, it just sits there. Any suggestion is much appreciated.

Regardless if I hold Option while pressing the power button or Command+R and pressing the power, it all comes to the globe spinning with options to choose a network regardless if I connected to an Ethernet cable or not. What's my next option? I selected my Wifi network and after about 15 minutes, it shows the following screen.

Thanks for the resource links. I'm on a MacBook Pro and when I trie download the macOS High Sierra, I do not see an option to download. Instead, it wants me to update instead. I don't want to update my MBP. I just need the MacOS so I can create the bootable USB.

I have the same issue. I clicked the Get and then the Software Update pops up and then the "Update not found" window popped up as well. That would be the end of it. If I click OK, I'm back to "Update Now" instead of download.

I already got Catalina downloaded to a bootable USB flashdrive. I don't think the Air needs to connect to an ethernet cable. The biggest issue right now is that it displays the prohibitory symbol. I need to resolve this first.

If your computer truly is a 2011 MBA the most recent OS you can install is High Sierra. Restart holding the Command R keys and download the OS. Restarting with Command & R will download the most recent compatible OS. If you have been trying to install Catalina, that explains why you keep failing.
