Thisis a passion project and we are figuring out what works at the moment. Our ultimate vision is to build a digital platform to faclilitate this all over the world. For now, we are happily discovering if this is what you want and will use, and how to make it work. We love your donations (buy us coffee!) as an exchange of happy vibes, yet, that is totally up to you.
It's a very simple idea, yet very effective. We are all on Zoom, our faces or work spaces are on camera, and once we mute, we get to work, and we can see each other on the screen, working (gallery view is best)!
The other work-around one of our work buddies came up with was to position his iPad a little further way and to the side of his work station, because he preferred not to be 'face-to-face whilst he was working. You can get creative!
In a nutshell, you pick one thing from your list to focus on, set the timer for 25 minutes and stay on it until the timer goes off. Any other distractions or things you think about during the 25 minutes, you write down on a piece of paper, then come back to your single task. Then you take a 5 minute break, and go again.
Of course. Using the Facebook group you are welcome to gather your favourites and set up your own groups together. We encourage this! You'll just need to use your own Zoom Room, or the Spontaneous Facebook Group Room that we are trialling. We'd love you to let us know how you go.
This is definitely in our plan. Depending on you all and what you want. It is easy for us to add these on at the end of or beginning of our sessions if you want to get learn from your co-working buddies, or seek their collaborative input on a challenge you have.
Our mission is to create a world where remote-working is socially connected, collaborative, productive and fun. You can be part of a work community online with the social and emotional benefits that brings.

Certain components of Buddy Project, however, have been a part of her life for even longer. Frost was in middle school when she first started using social media to connect with people online and join communities related to her favorite bands. And it was during her freshman year of high school that she first learned about the importance of mental health and the stigma of mental illness after she discovered her best friend was self-harming and had suicidal thoughts.
Originally started as an online community, Buddy Project became a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2015 and has grown offline to include in-person fundraising events and a campus rep program in which middle school, high school and college students volunteer to spread awareness about mental health care and support on their campuses.
Frost runs Buddy Project with a strong, and close, support system: her mom is an accountant and helps with finances and fundraising, her aunt is an experienced event planner, her cousin is a social worker and a friend in her major at Drexel helps with PR outreach. The organization also relies on volunteers and partnerships with online influencers to spread the word and continue to build.
This summer, Frost completed her first co-op working at the Fillmore Philadelphia at Live Nation as a premium seating sales intern, helping people with the best way to watch live shows at the Fishtown venue and others across the city, like the TLA and the Tower Theater.
Learning well isn't just about you and a lesson, it's about you, a lesson and your student community! So, you need some study buddies. But you're a distance learner. What can you do? Watch the video for some suggestions!
In fact, many experts believe we learn most effectively when we interact with other learners. Learning together in groups or pairs can even improve your scores. Let's say you've learned some new information. Discussing and sharing this info means you process it again and again, helping you form long-term memories. And by questioning all the angles, you get a broader understanding of your topic, and you don't get stuck in your own head. It means you have someone else with whom you can complain, debate, celebrate, compete and commiserate. And if you're motivated and engaged, you're more likely to complete the course.
So, you need some study buddies. But you're doing distance learning. What can you do? Here are some suggestions. You can join an online forum on the topic. Maybe your course has a forum already. Use it. Or start a new one. And maybe you're on a course with its own page or group on social media. If not, then, why not start one? And you don't just have to write messages to your fellow students. Try using software or apps to talk to them, or even do video calls. And remember, if you want to make the most of these groups, it's best to have some structure and guidelines or rules for taking part.
All of these are informal ways of staying in touch with other students, but your course might ask you to do formal tasks, such as collaborating on a project. In which case, your course will probably provide or suggest online tools. So try to use these tips to create your own online study community, so that you're not left out in the cold.
