I have a couple of quite slow-loading sites www.hastingsflyer.com and www.festivalflyer.com both featuring eventon calendars but both achieve top Google rankings for relevant searches 'live musiic in Hastings' 'UK festivals in July' etc... so it is probably something else...although speed optimisation is important for user experience and return traffic! It's something I'm working on...
