Sometime in the 1980s, the bigger Sekolah Kebangsaan,
especially Government-Assisted Mission Schools in big towns, were divided into
School 1 and School 2 with a different set of students, teachers and administration
but located in the same vicinity. This
seemed to be strategic at the time and also provided more promotional posts.
Now however, many of these schools have much reduced student enrolment. So much so that it seems to be a waste of financial and human resources.
An example in case: In
1963 there were 1444 students in the school.
Compare
that to the statistics below which are actual data of the primary girls schools
which was split

Is it not logical to close one and allow the students to be merged into a school of a more OPTIMUM size with better use of resources?
Added up, 44 teachers and 13 support Staff for 346 students !!
The Mission Authority of this Government-Assisted Mission School has applied for the smaller school to be closed. After some years, the matter is still pending.
In the efforts of the Ministry of Education to review the Education System, bidang ke Lapan “Penggunaan Sumber yang Efisien dan Efektif ",
I propose that the government consider merging these small schools - the School 1 and 2 - for a more efficient and effective use of resources.
