Dear all,

Here's a small introduction of what MYCN is all about.

As the name suggests, MYCN is a network, a network of youth working
together against the affects of climate change in the Maldives. Our
mission is "empowering youth to combat climate change".

Since we already have a number of NGOs working in the field of
environmental conservation, our initial idea was to form a "network"
of such NGOs and individuals. Unfortunately we do not have regulations/
legislation which allow us to register networks in the Maldives.

Therefore we will be registering MYCN as an NGO at the Ministry of
Home Affairs after the "hingaa gavaidhu" has been finalised. It is
currently available online (in the Files section of this group) for
comments.

If you've gone through the "hingaa gavaidhu" (which is avialable in
the Files section) you can see that our main objects include
- establishing a strong youth network (in all atolls and inhabited
islands of the country),
- inform and educate youth about the science of climate change, and
- capacity building amongst youth
- mobilising funds for youth-lead climate change initiatives
- ensure that climate change related foreign aid/grants are allocated
to sound projects which address the needs of the most vulnerable
communities in the Maldives.

Once MYCN is registered, we will open member registration via our
website, which will going up very soon.

We are already on Facebook and Twitter:

Meanwhile, pass on the message to your friends about MYCN and keep
checking the group for updates.

As this NGO would act as a network, I suggest the NGO have an
additional objective of something like:

- Act as a platform where NGOs and individuals with shared aims (of
climate action) join together and advocate on each others behalf.

This can be done through pooling resources, sharing information, and
taking collective action, in turn, giving more leverage and power for
every single NGO in the network.
