Dear Albert - thank you for your note. I for one am fully supportive of this and think it’s long overdue.
Sorry in advance to all for the long note as I feel very strongly about this.
First, I commend the Heritage Committee for the recent beautiful Alla Dadi event and the informative exhibits that were put together - truly impactful!
My key take away was that what differentiates us Mashadi Jews from others is our rich and unique history, where our great grandparents practiced our Jewish religion, wholeheartedly, in secret, under oppression, for over 100 years! The key word here is Jewish, and as Jews, one of our core obligations is to look out for the State of Israel and all Jews across the world - whether Mashadi, Sephardi, Ashkenaz, from Ethiopia, the Far East or anywhere else across the world. So the least we can do for the 6 million of our fellow Jews who perished in the Holocaust is have a plaque or two in their loving memory.
Separately, recent events, such as in San Diego and the Nazi propaganda-type cartoon published in the NY Times, are strong reminders that anti-Semitism is a constant threat and keeps popping it’s ugly head... even in places we feel safe. As Jews, it’s our responsibility to teach all future generations and have constant reminders of what happened to our brothers and sisters in the Holocaust, so it never ever happens again!
I really hope all fellow board and committee members, whether on the CB the SB or otherwise, are supportive and join in this effort. It’s absolutely the right thing to do!
Sincerely,
Hooman
