I understand that we could and should privately to urge community members to vote for certain candidates but we must learn a lesson from this episode not to openly and publicly attack any public official as we did with Anna

nothing good comes out of publicly shaming a candidate running for office

I fully agree with Babak that our community needs to stay above the political fray.

We should be involved and participate in elections, while at the same time keeping a low profile and without making enemies, for the sake of our community.

Good morning,

 We have not burned any bridges or lost any "friends" in this campaign process. We spoke and educated our dear community members about the candidate that would  to be best for our community's interests. A candidate who would not  increase our taxes by 20% , a candidate that was pro Israel and a candidate who is not supporting third trimester murder (aka abortion).

Dont worry about kissing up to Anna Kaplan. She is now on a state level and will not be doing anything for our Long Island area other than to increase our tax and give the funds to schools in Queens and other boroughs for making them better.

In the past she helped for our senior beach day by taking "our" tax dollars and giving us buses and some workers at the park. All other food expenses and manpower was provided by Senior Club, Colbeh and Sisterhood who help out that day. Any person in the "town" position will do that for us with "our" tax dollars in the future.

I respect you very much and I know you asked that we stop replying to these email groups.

 

As one of the founding members of the Public Affairs Committee, I am not going to comment on what happened over the last few months so much but rather starting some guidelines for our meeting to discuss the new guidelines we want to establish. 

 

1.       If you go thru the list of the members of the Public Affairs Committee, more than half of them have not attended any meetings and have not even responded to any of the emails in the last few months. I believe this list should not be called the Public Affairs Committee but a list for the Public Affairs Committee.

 

We need to review the members of the Public Affairs Committee and see if all of them are still interested in being on the committee or we should remove them.  I am also 100% sure and I know of at least half a dozen people who would love to be on the committee but have never been invited.  So my suggestion is that we send out an inquiry, if possible, still for tomorrow’s Kanissa News, if anyone is interested in joining the Public Affairs Committee, they should let the Central Board know and also maybe in all of our synagogues, we can make announcements about this issues, if anyone wants to join.

 

2.       Also in preparation for our meeting, I would like to clarify one other thing.  Although the Public Affairs Committee’s initials are PAC, the purpose of a PAC  under the umbrella of non-profit organization is not the same as a political action committee, which also has the initials PAC and is typically called a “PAC”.   Political Action Committees cannot be under the umbrella of a non-profit organization and should be formed totally privately and cannot in any way represent the UMJCA, the Mashadi Community as a whole or even the Iranian community as a whole.  They have to have their own guidelines to represent their members and individuals.
