Dear friends,
The Malaysia Waldorf Teachers Preparatory Course Committee will be holding two workshops with Dr Robin Bacchus.
(I) The Art of Science Teaching – Strategies for Teaching the Curious Child (from 12 to 14 years old) (II) Evening workshop (4.00 - 5.30pm) : Karma and Reincarnation in relation to Education, (This is an evening workshop which is open to public. For participants of (I) The Art of Science Teaching, entrance is FREE and attendance is NOT COMPULSORY.)
(I) THE ART OF SCIENCE TEACHING Often Science is taught as a lot of theory that has to be learnt or memorised. In Waldorf Education however, we seek to develop a discovery approach to science phenomena that is unprejudiced, experiential, experimental, heuristic [trial-and-error]. Children should learn to build their own theory on the basis of their own personal experience.
At what age? Physical sciences are not introduced until children are 12 year-olds. This is at a time to consider that some things happen by ‘chance’ and other things happen by ‘necessity’ – that there are ‘laws of nature’. By exploring such laws at this age they develop the ability to distinguish between ‘cause’ and ‘effect’ which becomes a basis for logical thinking.
The highlights of the workshop are: *Action research. *3-, 9-, 7-, 4-fold human being. *Stages of life in 9 septennials. *Life forces in learning. *Strategies for teaching 12 to 14 year old children. *The art of science teaching; structure of lessons. From observation to personal ‘theory’. *Science experiments. Presentations and demonstrations of phenomena.

Evening workshop : (II) KARMA and REINCARNATION IN RELATION TO EDUCATION This is an evening workshop which is open to public. For participants of (I) The Art of Science Teaching, entrance is FREE and attendance is NOT COMPULSORY.
Rudolf Steiner showed that a deepened understanding of successive earth lives (reincarnation) formed the basis for true knowledge of the relationship of human beings and the cosmos. We will explore the implications that our existence does not just begin at conception and terminate at death. What impact does a previous earth life have on our current life and our next life? How can this knowledge affect the way in which we educate our children?
