Malaysia Waldorf Education Preparatory Course
24th to 29th November 2015
Astronomy - the Change of Consciousness
By Robin Bacchus, PhD
Does the sun always rise in the east and set in the west?
Are the moon and the stars moving in the same way each day?
Are the stars really moving?
What is a cosmic year or a cultural age?
How do the stars affect our consciousness?
Robin Bacchus, PhD, the Programme Director Emeritus of Taruna College’s (New Zealand) Diploma in Rudolf Steiner Education’ with four decades of Waldorf experience as a Class Teacher, High School teacher and Adult/Teacher educator, will lead us to experience the change of consciousness from seeing an Earth-centred (geocentric) world to a Sun-centred (heliocentric) model of the solar system.
In Waldorf education, Astronomy touches every class progressively from Class One to Class Twelve. We will look at these connections – particularly from the consciousness of lower classes, and how it evolves to a new consciousness in the middle school. Our study of the Stars, like the human being, is three-fold: Astronomy, Astrology, Astrosophy. This workshop will focus on classroom teaching in Waldorf middle school, where we are concerned mainly with the first; but as teachers, we should be aware of the latter two.
