I'm wondering it it would be possible to have a different entry in the
Outline that:
1) didn't have a checkbox, and
2) had limited properties, specifically:
a. All 'General' Properties (with Task To DO Visibility defaulted to
'Hide only this task in To-Do')
b. Custom Formatting (with an option defaulted to override Subtasks
inherit custom formatting)

This entry would act like a task in every other way in that it could
be dragged and dropped and subtasks attached etc. It would, in effect,
serve as a header, or title, and could be used in a variety of
different ways in the Outline and To-Do views.

The ability to override inheriting the custom formating is important.
It would mean that presentationally, a 'header' (or 'title') could be
embedded deep within outline structures that were color coded and
still look different.

Indeed, going one step further, it would be useful to be able to set
up in advance the format for new headers (which could later be amended
for individual headers, in the properties section)
ie inheret existing structure format or format new headers like so....

Maybe 'Ctrl + Insert' to insert a header as a sibling and 'Ctrl + Alt
+ Insert' to insert a header as a child.

I'm wondering with this new tree view, this sort of thing would be
possible. It would make a big difference I think to users wanting a
more individually tailored look to their Outlines and ToDo lists.

Yes this is possible and I am thinking how to design it properly in
next versions.

great to hear Andrey.. maybe you could just have an option in a normal
task to switch it to a Header/Title or whatever you might call this..
ie someone inserts a normal task and then clicks a option button maybe
at the top of the properties window which switches off the task
tickbox and hides (and renders ineffective) unnecessary Properties
Groups - everything except for the General and Format property
groups.

The only thing you may need to add is an override that enables the
task format to override any inherited format so that these headers can
look different to normal tasks. Maybe this is a feature every task
should have anyway though.

Oh, and if by default when you set a task to a Header/Title, you might
want to have the task Visibility autmatically set to Hide in the To-Do
list. This would mean that people would have to actually amend the
task visibility to have it show up in the to-do list. This reflects
the fact that I guess most users will tend to use these headers to add
clarity to their Outline view and they wouldn't want them cluttering
up their to-do lists.

I think this would make a really big difference to the presentation of
outlines (and to-do lists) in MLO.

If you implement a 'Remove Task Checkbox' checkbox in Task Properties-
General Tab which removes the checkbox and hides the 'task' in the
todo list.
That would sort it out.
