Remove "inherit parent dates" as a default

Hi,

I'm trying to find how to turn off "inherit parent dates" as the default. Very rarely do I create a project where everything is due on the same day. However, I'm frequently creating a subtask that has the "inherit parent dates" box checked. 

Is this functionality included in version 5.0.4 or is this a function that needs to be requested?

Hello JELPHD,

It's functionality which needs to be requested. MLO defaults to inheriting context and dates from the parent, until you alter them manually (or unless you write dates and context into the new task description and hit Alt-Enter to parse that information).

I've posted on a few threads to suggest that it would be good to implement functionality that another outliner, Bonsai, used to have many years ago - so that the user can decide whether a task inherits dates, context, flags and tags from parent, from nearest sibling, or that some of them get preset to a value (eg start date set to today, due date set to the parent's due date, context set to a preset value). This would be incredibly useful for me, saving me from lots of clicks to edit loads of parameters each time I create a task.

Trees Steph this would be a wonderful addition. Mandatory date inheritance for me is more often an annoyance than assistance.

Is any update available on the possible addition of this feature, and how might I formally request that it be added if this is not the proper venue?

I would like to get back to this, because for me this is an issue, too. My projects are usually over a longer time period, so it makes no sense that all the tasks should have the same due date as the project as a whole. That would be much too late and it causes problems if I forget to change the dates manually. 

So: Please make it possible to turn off "inherit parent date" as a default option!

I support the suggestion of "inherit parent date" being a default option. It is an option I have never used and it is irritating to have to turn it off, whenever I create a sub-task.

I support the suggestion of "inherit parent date" being OPTIONAL.  It is a selection I have never wanted and it is irritating to have to turn it off, whenever I create a sub-task.
